Power of MN

Possibly a silly question, given where everyone is right now.

I'm abroad. Mother's Day on Sunday. My mum lives alone and is quite vulnerable. Is there anything I can send her through online services that might help? Do veg box subscriptions still work now?

I feel so powerless. Any ideas please?

Thanks, but I mean that she's struggling to buy food, so is there a reliable way if making sure she has something to eat?

I’d say the first thing to do is join a Facebook group for the town your mum lives in and ask there. Supermarket food deliveries are booked out for three weeks or more where we are but I know from our local town Facebook that the greengrocers fruit and veg boxes are being delivered next day if ordered by 9pm the night before and several local cafes who have closed for table service are doing an afternoon tea with sandwiches and cakes delivered to mums in the local area (and left on doorsteps if necessary) for £12. I’m sure in your mum’s area small businesses are scrabbling about to do similar things, but might not have updated their websites about it because things are changing so quickly. Ask the question on a community page and I’m sure someone locally could help.

Good luck!

I tried supermarket delivery. I guess everyone is in the same boat. But she doesn't have anyone who could buy for her.

See if your mum has a Shocal service in her area too. They have stores locally who offer basics, nice things etc. Or a milkman?

AlCalavicci · 20/03/2020 13:00

I second trying a milkman mine has been fantastic

AsiaTruly · 20/03/2020 13:35

Thanks. How would I find a milkman?

I liked up Shocal service and nothing relevant. Is the spelling correct?

Could you post where she is? There's loads of local shops and restaurants doing deliveries near me, farm shops, wholesalers etc but it's only on Facebook that it's being publicised.

Could be a local MNer who could point you to something?

iklboo · 20/03/2020 14:48

@AsiaTruly - I googled 'milk delivery (our area)'. Hopefully there's one near your mum.

Shocal is an app but isn't available everywhere yet unfortunately but was worth a try just in case.
