Working from home fails

A lightheaded thread to hopefully cheer us all up a bit.

I took a mid-morning shower yesterday, and just as i got out, I had an incoming conf call. I had to refuse my camera as I was only wearing a towel.

Not as bad as a very senior person at another company we also deal with, who took his laptop into the toilet during a conf call, but forgot to turn his mike or camera off. It was quite graphic apparently....

haha. Mine is less lighthearted - we have two printers in the house. Both have been used by me in the last couple of weeks. Now neither one is registering as online and I can print nothing. Driving me mad.

I did have the cat miaowing piteously on a conference call last week. Luckily most people thought it was funny!

Likethebattle · 20/03/2020 10:34

I’m bored at my desk at home!

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 20/03/2020 10:36

Ive had an error message on my laptop for the last 3 hours. IT arent answering my emails or phone calls. Ive sent a mail to my boss explaining what Ive done and could she possibly kick some IT arse.

In between emails I squeezed the hamster's cyst as instructed by the vet

CatBatCat · 20/03/2020 12:24

Conference call bingo.

"Is so and so on the call?"
"You've frozen"
"Can everyone go on mute?"
"You're still sharing your screen"
"Can everyone see my screen?"
"Can you repeat that?"
"Woof, mieow, baby cries in background"
sound of someone furiously typing possibly with a hammer

AlCalavicci · 20/03/2020 13:06

I was on a zoom meeting , I had someone knock on my front door , they could see me through the front room window and would not sod off they just kept banging .
I tried to indicate I was in a meeting but he held up a box of dusters and sprays presumably trying to see them .

AlCalavicci · 20/03/2020 13:07

See = sell them

LefttoherownDevizes · 20/03/2020 13:09

Shouting 'I don't care if Fortnite is lagging I'm trying to take a conference call so be quiet' at DS11 whilst actually being on conf call (which also included camera despite me thinking it'd turned it off - nothing more off-putting than seeing yourself on screen unexpectedlly)

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 20/03/2020 13:19

I spilled tea all over myself while surreptitiously lounging on the spare bed instead of being at my desk so had to quickly mute, swear a bit and mop it up with whatever was nearest, which happened to be one of the cats' blankets. Styled it out though, nobody noticed.

BarbaraofSeville · 20/03/2020 13:26

One of my kittens started chasing a noisy tinkly ball all over the laminate floor while I was on a conference call yesterday.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 20/03/2020 16:48

Not realising video would start up on a skype meeting, and unexpectedly seeing my own quadruple chins staring down at the laptop.

I work in IT. This has made me both laugh tiredly and want to weep for your IT department. Until 4pm this afternoon, when my boss got cross with me over the phone and told to me stop working I have worked 12+ hour days this week, while work has pinged in from across the country, all of it affecting 100s-1000s of users and supporting key staff through this week. I'm am shattered, I want to cry because although everyone has been kind and polite to me it's been intensely stressful and now all I want to do is curl up into a ball until Monday and it all probably starts again.

Leave your poor IT dept's arses alone. FFS.

I hate to play a tiny violin, but there are a lot of us nerds working crazy long hours and taking a lot of flak right now while we try and hold infrastructure together that has never experienced this load, or demand, and while not as important as food and drink (though most of the food and drink supply chain relies on IT infrastructure as much as everything else), nearly all businesses would collapse without it and it is under huge strain.

Arrakis · 20/03/2020 16:59

I told my kid to 'bugger off if you please' earlier, while on a conference call. I'm normally v good at remembering to mute. Not that time.

Wildernesstips · 20/03/2020 17:15

@Arrakis I’m totally with you. Not directly IT but Sys Admin and lost count of the number of crazy calls and emails I’m getting just because someone can’t do precisely what they do in the office!

I’ve also had too many conf calls where the mic is directly under someone’s nose and it sounds like there’s a heavy breather on the line.

WhateverHappenedToBathPearls · 20/03/2020 17:20

I got a small piece of chocolate stuck in the hinge of my work laptop. I didn't get it out quickly enough and now it's gone all gooey...

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 20/03/2020 17:23

@Arrakis appreciate your point but im in dk and we are all working from home on full pay and we all have decent conditions. Working 12 hr days is frowned upon and interpreted as you being incompetant. As soon as my boss raised the issue through the correct channel it got answered. But I couldnt get to the correct channel because of the error.

Im genuinely sorry you have to work in such conditions Flowers

managedmis · 20/03/2020 17:24

Failed conference call on how to use Microsoft teams. I couldn't hear anything.

I'll have to just resort to googling how to do it instead 🤔

OneEpisode · 20/03/2020 17:26

I didn’t know how to background blur and I’m wfh at one end of the kitchen. Dh in shot a one point. Apparently everyone was totes dying to know what the orange thing he was carrying was. It was the sponge filling from an IKEA cushion everyone!

JWrecks · 20/03/2020 17:27

One of my co-worker's DC barged in on a meeting and started stropping, mummy I'm booooooooooored and she won't give me the toy and--- while the poor dear was trying to update us!

I'm so enjoying everyone's pets trying to participate in conference calls, though!

Arrakis · 20/03/2020 17:29

@StrictlyAFemaleFemale thanks. It’ll pass and it’s making me at least feel useful (I work in an industry that supplies essential household stuff) and much of what I’ve been doing this week has been supporting the supply chain of that, so at least I’m using my skills to ever so slightly contribute.

Apologies for I snapping at you, I’m too tired and it’s not quite time for wine.

PurplePonderer · 20/03/2020 17:29

Dropped jam on the brand new sofa while eating breakfast and Skyping. Had to ‘step away’ from the conference call to go and clean it off. The irony being that I’m always nagging DH not to spill things on it Blush On the other hand he’s pinched the home office today so he can’t complain too much.

Arrakis · 20/03/2020 17:30

Hah, hence all the mistakes creeping into my posts. That’s my excuse anyway.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 20/03/2020 17:32

Just have some wine Wine Smile

ADreamOfGood · 20/03/2020 17:32

Tried to conference call with no mic!
Then found the camera is also disabled...
Erm.

JWrecks · 20/03/2020 17:34

I've got another one from DH, from a couple years ago.

He had just spoken and sat back to listen. He had the laptop on his knees, and he leaned back and let loose one of the loudest, longest, most musical farts I've ever heard, directly into the microphone! When he looked to make sure, he saw that he definitely was NOT muted.

Strangely, nobody said a word about it.
