False car insurance claim

A false car insurance claim has been made against me. The incident is supposed to have happened on 1st August, south of London - I live and work in the North-East.

We're with Admiral and a number of months ago they notified us of the case. I sent proof that I was at work on the day in question and also photos of the car to show there is no damage. We believed the case to be over, but now it's got to renewal time and our premium is triple the usual cost. I have spoken with Admiral but they have said the claim has not been dropped yet but they can't really do anything unless the other side accepts it's a case of mistaken identity.

Does anyone know if there is anything I can do? I'm so stressed out and angry at how someone's misinformation can affect us so much. Thanks everyone.

Contact the motor insurance bureau. My Dad had similar and it turned out the other car had cloned plates. They keep the database that accidents are recorded on I believe.

It happened to DH a few months ago. He got the additional money back as soon as the case was closed. But that took some time as the 'other side' didn't drop it for a few months, we were dealing with the sudden death of his dad at thetime. It was a stress he didn't need.

If your insurer is aware that you have stated it was not your car and have provided proof then it will al depend on what is happening with the claimant.

And yes, the motor insurance bureau s a good shout to se if you can get things sped up!

Oh, and keep the letter they send when it is all over. It confirms you have had your money back and your account, no claims, risk rating returned to normal. Could be useful for the next renewal, just in case!

@Llig hi, I know it’s a few months old post, but did anything happened on the false claim made against you? Once of my friends is in a similar position as you, was the motor insurance bureau able to help in any way. Thank you
