I saw a man buying £48 worth of petit filous. Nothing else. And I thought the supermarkets were banning this kind of buying.

What is the craziest thing you have seen?

I saw an older man in the supermarket. His basket made me feel sad - 7 tins of soup and 7 (large) bars of chocolate.

But he also had 72 toilet rolls!..?? The shop assistant made him put some back.

That's conjuring up a lovely image in my mind of this fella balancing 72 bog rolls (along with the soup and chocolate) in a single basket! I also imagine him to be in a top hat and tails, and riding a unicycle in the supermarket Grin

MikeUniformMike · 19/03/2020 16:25

That's really mean. You are poking fun at someone who possibly has a bowel malfunction or might have been buying supplies for an elderly infirm neighbour.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 19/03/2020 16:47

If you meant me there, Mike, I was not passing judgement on the contents of his shopping at all - purely the fact that he had (at least) three massive packs of toilet roll in one single basket. I presume there's no panic-hoarding of trolleys, is there?

MikeUniformMike · 19/03/2020 17:34

I think I might have been putting on a straight face.

kateandme · 19/03/2020 19:05

there are alot of people who have to eatonly a certain product be it an illness like crohns, cancer, anxiety it could be autism related and sensory issues.there are also those suffering from eating disorders who have either very strict routines and food plans or restrcit to one item so might by 40 of something for their day.to others it would seem extreme but this is their normal diet which adds up to the same cals as someone with a varied allowable diet. and so for them this time is fucking horrific.and when you see a loved one buying 3 items only of the only thing they can eat you might change your mind on hte judging.
so to that person who can only eat a specidifc yoghurt say, they are facing looking at just 3 yoghurts a day because of restrictions.maybe think on that.
and no.they cant just change!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 19/03/2020 20:40

Sorry, Mike - I should have known better Smile

DuckConfitNumberOne · 19/03/2020 20:50

Maybe he was buying them for care home residents, or given they’re kids yoghurts, for a local kindergarten.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 19/03/2020 20:54

Or maybe he's running a sanctuary for rescued baby seals, They love Petit Filou, especially the strawberry flavour.

CarolHasAnotherUTI · 19/03/2020 22:48

The fresh sliced meat is empty here. Only stays fresh for about 5 days.. And can't be frozen

Maybe because there are a lot of people now having to make their own lunch while working from home, instead of grabbing a ready made sandwich at/near work.

Dowser · 19/03/2020 23:41

Our local charity shop for a local charity was selling pears soap and pears hand wash for £1 each and a 4 pack of lux soap for 50p
I paid for one of each each
A real bargain and to be honest, why people are paying exorbitant prices for toilet paper is ridiculous.

EndIsNigh · 19/03/2020 23:47

Perhaps people need to be less judgemental about what people are buying.
My DH recovering from throat cancer.
He was PEG fed until recently. He can manage petit folou , soup, not much else.
Stop being selfish and hogging what you don't need.
We have to go to hospital appointment tomorrow. We have no hand sanitiser. Hope everyone with stocks of it and a healthy immune system feels guilty...

Excitedforxmas · 19/03/2020 23:53

Weare 7 at home. 3 of us high risk. No way I can get to a supermarket or even the local shops.
At 2pm every day my autistic 19 yo will eat 2 packs of 14p Tesco noodles. So that's 60 packs a month - 2 trays. If the little ones want any or if I do noodles for tea thats another tray so on average 90 packs noodles a month. Which sounds ridiculous but it gets eaten every month.
I was allowed 3 packs in my shopping.
Not looking forward to the daily meltdowns.

Holothane · 20/03/2020 01:57

My hubby has been panicking all week our fortnightly shop won’t come we are both disabled, I have been careful not over shop, oh 3 pepperoni own brand pizza, but only 2 of usual things. Extra hand towels that can be washed But this panic buying has got stop.

Dowser · 20/03/2020 19:53

Just ran my grandsons home
Towns gone mad
Everyone dashing out for booze now

Dowser · 20/03/2020 19:57

One of our corner shops is getting toilet roll in the morning
Dil going at 9 to get three packs., one for their family, me and my daughter and her family
Don’t judge her

KatherineJaneway · 21/03/2020 06:32

Toilet rolls are still hard to come by here but the latest elusive product is eggs. No eggs any where apparently.

Scruffyoak · 21/03/2020 07:44

Missnevermind. I have 2 with autism and its going to be very hard. Yesterday we had a few meltdowns....
