£48 worth of petit filous

I saw a man buying £48 worth of petit filous. Nothing else. And I thought the supermarkets were banning this kind of buying.

What is the craziest thing you have seen?

Ds is Autistic, will eat a limited range. Not as limited as many thankfully. I saw it coming though so have lots of shreddies in stock. I am not sure what I am going to do if we run out of milk.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 19/03/2020 12:16

I suppose people are buying what they thing they’ll need/usually eat. I bought a load of Diet Pepsi yesterday as I’m addicted to it. It’s not that I think it’ll run out but I want to minimise going to the shops as much as possible.

SoloD · 19/03/2020 12:23

Local shop is out of loo roll, but still being sold at Yorkshire trading

www.yorkshiretrading.com/products/nicky-elite-9-pack-toilet-roll?variant=31931383283808

Luckily those in Yorkshire don't seem to panic

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 19/03/2020 12:25

I agree it would be helpful to have some sort of way of allowing those with larger families to buy more, I say this as someone who has acquired an extra adult in the house and is also shopping for a housebound 80 yo.

But I also know, deep down, that any system would no doubt be thwarted and would be down to the poor beleaguered supermarket staff to manage.

Dramalady52 · 19/03/2020 12:26

Perhaps what needs to happen is that sites like eBay, etc stop people from selling loo roll etc online. Then there would be no black market to take advantage of and these CFs would be unable to profiteer so easily. Maybe?

worldsworststepfordwife · 19/03/2020 12:29

We keep saying this, the amount of wasted food that’ll be put in bins in a fortnight to be collected by council bin collectors that are self isolating Ill etc and are not doing rounds as regularly. Is anyone reading this in any of the countries on lockdown, has it changed your bin collection schedule?

emmathedilemma · 19/03/2020 12:31

80 paper napkins (4 packs of 20) in waitrose this morning #priorities

KisstheTeapot14 · 19/03/2020 12:31

@sinkgirl We have been trying to get a pad assessment so they can supply us with some. It is the usual NHS merry go round of trying to get referral. Probably wont be able to go to any appts now anyway. No one wanted responsibility but we are chasing it via paediatric urology consultant (where we are up to after 5 years). Good idea on triple change - may need to buy more protectors so we can wash and go. Our house is like a Chinese laundry at the best of times.
DH is actually Chinese before anyone says anything. Its a running joke in our house. Not that he's Chinese, I mean about the laundry.

Hippee · 19/03/2020 12:32

SoloD Grin Grin Grin Wish that was true. There are plenty of wazzocks here.

Frangipanini · 19/03/2020 12:33

I've started to buy things that other people are not really interested in. Oh, the sacrifice. Wink I urge others to do the same thing if they can. So for example, if you can cook well and eat anything please start and focus on the lesser popular items to make meals for your self. For example, I've got frozen chicken already for a couple of meals so I'm happy to not raid this aisle as others need it too. Today I bought things like paneer and feta which no one is stockpiling and a few bags of spinach and I can make meals out of these. Also, if you look at the milk, the oat milk is being left. I really like this so I am not going to buy the UHT milk from now on. I went to the shop and the chicken and beef was wiped clean at 7am, but the turkey mince was untouched. I bought that. Turkey burgers are delicious.

I'm not being fancy or anything. I'm just trying to do a bit to reduce the mayhem. I am deliberately buying the other stuff. Please try and do this if you can to relieve a bit of pressure until the mayhem passes.

Tiredmumno1 · 19/03/2020 12:34

That wouldn't last my severely autistic child for the week, it is all they eat, they have a diagnosis of ARFID (Avoidance Restrictive Food Intake Disorder). It is horrible panicking whether your child can eat.

We have spoken to Tesco and they said to go in the store with his medical letter and speak to customer services as they may allow us to put them on different transactions and allow us to have more, which is great because 3 packs would only last the day, fingers crossed it all goes smoothly when we get there.

Good luck to everyone in the same position, I really feel for everyone right now, awful times Sad

Frangipanini · 19/03/2020 12:35

Also WRT Petit Filou. I bet it has to do with the sell by date. Have you seen the dates on these things? They are delicious and DC love them but they have about a 3 month sell by date on them. They are full of crap.

FrangipaniBlue · 19/03/2020 12:39

Some of the whataboutery on this thread is shocking.

I have just this morning sat down with my very fussy eater DS(12) and explained to him how some things are going to change and we won't always be able to get the exact brand of bread or yoghurts or butter etc that he likes and so he's going to have to try some different things.

I get it if you or your DC have a medical condition that's not so easy but to the posters who can't cope without their fizzy pop or milk for their tea good god give your heads a wobble ey!!!!

1forsorrow · 19/03/2020 12:42

My bins normally collected at about 3 or 3.30 on a Thursday afternoon, causes chaos with the local school coming out at the same time. This morning they arrived at 7.30 and then I, and some neighbours, were to be seen rushing out in dressing gowns to get our bins out. The guys collecting were having fun at us rushing round like loons but they did hang on for a couple of minutes as panicking housewives were rushing about.

HappyHammy · 19/03/2020 13:09

what are schools and other places that have closed doing with all their excess food? have they been giving it away to their staff or donating it anywhere.

SinkGirl · 19/03/2020 13:40

@KisstheTeapot14 i get you - we have twins and constantly triple layer their cots so we’ve got 10 cot size mattress protectors in the house 😂

Evilspiritgin · 19/03/2020 13:54

I’m hoping but knowing the British public maybe not , that all the stockpiles of foodstuffs people have bought, that they aren’t all going to be wasted, we don’t have the best track record in this country at the best of times

VivienLeighsHandbag · 19/03/2020 14:01

A local chemist in my town is selling 50ml packs of hand sanitizer for £7.99. Terrible.

Isthistrueor · 19/03/2020 14:04

Can’t remember if DH personally saw this or heard someone talking about it but he said a woman tried to buy 100 tins of tomatoes in Aldi and was forced to return 96 of them. May have been in the news actually, I can’t remember.

Absolute insanity.

Isthistrueor · 19/03/2020 14:05

what are schools and other places that have closed doing with all their excess food?

My Mum’s a TA and because many children haven’t turned up this week for whatever reason (parents chose to keep them home and such) she said they’ve thrown a lot of food away. Sad.

MikeUniformMike · 19/03/2020 14:22

@VivienLeighsHandbag, the pharmacy is probably not marking them up. They're probably having to pay more for them and just marking them up normally.
If you are worried that somewhere is deliberately overcharging for sanitiser and other goods you can report them.

DinosApple · 19/03/2020 14:24

I tried to buy 10 loose carrots in my online shop. Nope, 3 max. But I was able to order a 1kg bag of carrots instead... (And could probably have ordered 3 bags. Hmm)

I'm not panic buying, I've got a family of four to feed for a week.

Loubylou9162 · 19/03/2020 14:29

I tried to buy 5 individual pots of ready made jelly today, simply because they were on offer 5 for £2. I only wanted 3 really but they were 70p each so made sense to buy 5. Some woman had a right go at me for buying 5 jellies, im selfish apparently.
There was no shortage of jelly 🤷🏼‍♀️

KaliforniaDreamz · 19/03/2020 14:51

Are they selling sense of humours anywhere? I've heard there is a defecit.

rjebgf · 19/03/2020 15:54

The supermarket rationing is starting to stress me out. I’m trying to feed 7 people, including 3 elderly. Am I going to be allowed to buy enough?
