AirBnB - full refunds

This is a small public service announcement that Airbnb are giving full refunds on trips between 14 March to 14 April, if booked before 14th March. I hadn't realised and thought I might be able to get a partial refund if I cancelled now.

I am a host and my guests are all getting full refunds inc airbnb fees when they cancel.

While I had been chatting to one guests and knew the real reason they were cancelling the formal message they sent to cancel mentioned the reason for cancelling was the Covid 19 sitution in my country. So maybe word your cancellation message needs to be worded a particular way.

Thrivingnotjustsurviving · 18/03/2020 16:43

The message is auto filled by Airbnb but can be changed by the cancellee.

I tried to get a refund and my host has declined it, how do I get a refund? Booked this time last year, and should have flown to Spain on Friday, for two week, so we fit the criteria.

There was a button on my booking that said 'cancel' which sorted it out.

Redglitter · 18/03/2020 16:53

If you go into the 'show details' of your trip theres a bit comes up & says this booking falls under the extenuating circumstances policy for cancellation. It then gives you a reschedule or cancel option

Thrivingnotjustsurviving · 18/03/2020 16:53

Friday is outside of the date range so that will be the issue. You might try contacting Airbnb to see if they can help.

Thrivingnotjustsurviving · 18/03/2020 16:53

That was to @Meandyouandyouandme

Meandyouandyouandme · 18/03/2020 16:54

That’s what I clicked, although I’d already cancelled it Friday when we decided we weren’t going so maybe it’s out of this remit now. I’ll try with Airbnb, thanks anyway.

Meandyouandyouandme · 18/03/2020 16:55

I have a screenshot from when I cancelled that says for bookings before 14th March, the site is saying something slightly different now so maybe that’s the issue. On Friday it encouraged me to cancel before the booking started in order to get a refund.

Redglitter · 18/03/2020 16:58

The cancellation offer only came into effect last night so you wouldnt have been covered on Fri. Hope Air BnB can sort it

needsmorebooks · 18/03/2020 17:03

Hope you can get some sort of refund @Meandyouandyouandme

@Redglitter ok thanks, so do I, or I’ll see if I can claim on the insurance

Meandyouandyouandme · 18/03/2020 17:05

@needsmorebooks thanks, yes I’ve just checked the wording is slightly different, but we should be there now, so a refund from when this policy was introduced would be reasonable I would hope. I’ve emailed them my screenshot, fingers crossed.
