Things you put in the dishwasher....

Been laid off...cleaning the kitchen and doing the jobs I hate.
Was wondering if I could put these in the dishwasher?...and what else I can to save time (and sanity), as they're greasy and are a b*h to do

Things you put in the dishwasher....

Yes fine. Other things also fine:

Welly boots
Cat bowls
Toilet brushes

Thelnebriati · 18/03/2020 11:38

You can do but then you have to clean the gunk out of the dishwasher. I soak them in a bucket of boiling water and bio washing powder. The gunk goes rubbery and you can scrape it off with a spatula.

I’ve done
Doesn’t come up as great as you’d hope
Best done with elbow grease

BlythesEyes · 18/03/2020 11:42

I'm gonna hoover first 🤣...will think about it later ....or tomorrow...or they day after..🤣🤣

Toilet brush? 🤮

I know a dishwasher is supposed to sterilise things but I think that’s a step too far.

Im fully on board with toilet brushes, I think they are far more sensible than any other method for getting a horrible job done. But seriously the dishwasher?

PieceOfMaria · 18/03/2020 11:44

I’ve put hob bars in the dishwasher. It’s fine. If stuff is really burnt on you’ll still have to chisel it off afterward though.

Try soaking them in the bath with some very hot water and a scoop of biological washing powder.

Dustpan and brush
Plastic kids toys
Plastic packaging for recycling (especially if it’s had raw meat on it)

isthismylifenow · 18/03/2020 11:45

Yes i put the stove grids and the round gas burners in the dishwasher. They come out perfectly clean.

I put the oven racks in as well.

ShirleyPhallus · 18/03/2020 11:46

I was joking Wink

HopeYouStepOnALego · 18/03/2020 11:47

I put the greasy filter panels from the cooker hood in the dishwasher and they came up a treat!

Rainyrain · 18/03/2020 11:47

Duplo/Lego bricks in a net laundry bag come out lovely and clean.
I pretty much put everything in my dishwasher. My dad jokes that I’d get myself in there for a clean if I could fit!

BarbaraofSeville · 18/03/2020 11:50

I've put most of the things suggested on here in the dishwasher and then some more (kitchen bin, oven door glass), but I think I'd get a pack of oven pride to deal with those. Make sure you follow the instructions, it's really nasty stuff.

MulticolourMophead · 18/03/2020 11:59

Vodka, to make flavoured vodka liquers

redwoodmazza · 18/03/2020 12:07

My instructions say 'cast iron parts are NOT to be put in a dishwasher'. I think it's something to do with the salt? Those look like cast iron to me.
Can you look up the user guide for your appliance on line to check what they are made of and what they advise?
Enamel ones would be fine, I think.

PsychoSyd · 18/03/2020 12:13

My dad used to put motorcycle parts in our dishwasher to clean them until I pointed out that the salt would rust them.

MulticolourMophead · 18/03/2020 12:16

I dont have a dishwasher right now, but I have used one previously to clean cooker and hob parts, as well as making the vodka.

I have heard of someone using a dishwasher to clean a child's scooter, or other toys.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 18/03/2020 12:39

I've put mine in before but I've found it best if you soak them first.

ThatLibraryMiss · 18/03/2020 12:41

I haven't heard of the vodka trick. When I made St Clement's Gin I wrapped it in bubble wrap and put it in the car boot for a year, so it got jiggled about every time I went round a corner or over a bump.

I put everything I can in the dishwasher. PPs have missed dishwashing brushes - it cleans and sterilises them.

Katinski · 18/03/2020 12:53

Years ago, when I had a dishwasher and we lived near a fish market, used to poach whole fish a treat.

Cast iron or cast aluminium? Mine are cast iron & they look much more pitted & bumpy than those.

HenHarrier · 18/03/2020 13:35

Anything cast iron in the dishwasher can cause spotting on stainless steel cutlery.

DH puts any golf balls he finds in the dishwasher (he does at least scrub them in the sink first).

supercee · 18/03/2020 13:38

My ex used to put his flip flops in the dishwasher and it really worked.

My ex used to put his flip flops in the dishwasher and it really worked.

Is that one of the reasons why he’s an ex?

supercee · 18/03/2020 14:23

@HenHarrier 😂😂

sueelleker · 18/03/2020 14:50

Non-stick baking sheets (the flexible ones) The lid of my Instant Pot (top rack only for some reason)
