A lovely idea for those socially isolating. Wide open spaces at no charge.

We're members anyway but I hope people make donations to keep the NT going.

Littleshortcake · 18/03/2020 08:50

Thanks for sharing- much appreciated

RedRed9 · 18/03/2020 08:53

I’ve just seen this too. Only for open grounds. The houses etc are all closing.

FlibbertyGiblets · 18/03/2020 08:57

Yes premises shut, cafes etc but grounds gardens and NT owned coast will be free entry. Very decent gesture. Go see the seal pups at Godrevy for nowt kinda stuff.

Rockbird · 18/03/2020 09:16

It's a great idea. We've been self isolating for 45 mins and I've nearly banged the dds heads together already, open space is definitely needed!

We did have membership but it lapsed. Will get them out for a run around and definitely renew once we're out the other side of this.

YangShanPo · 18/03/2020 09:22

Weald and Downland open air museum, West Sussex has it's grounds open for a donation. Cafe, historic houses all closed.

ALemonyPea · 18/03/2020 09:36

Are they though? I saw it on FB, from some random post shared by some random woman. There is nothing in their website.

YukoandHiro · 18/03/2020 09:36

Great!

ALemonyPea · 18/03/2020 09:37

Actually, ignore that, I followed the link, but it's on the main page.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 18/03/2020 09:39

Great! That's increased the number of places I can take the dog!

BigFatLiar · 18/03/2020 10:05

I think the closures may be from the end of the week so may still be open.

Portulaca · 18/03/2020 13:39

Their website says to check the details for the property you want to visit as some are completely closed. Our nearest one is Stourhead and the gardens are closed as well as the house, but the wider parkland is still going to be open.

ArriettyJones · 18/03/2020 13:51

How civilised of them.

Comefromaway · 18/03/2020 13:51

Not the one across the road from me. The gardens are closed completely until further notice.

AnneLovesGilbert · 18/03/2020 13:54

Such a brilliant idea. When we’re out the other side lll finally buy a pass.

Ventilatorshortage · 18/03/2020 13:58

Isn't this wondeful.
A wondeful gesture.

Troels · 18/03/2020 14:22

I just checked the one down the rooad from us, it's all closed barr the open gardens. So Dh and I can go walking there. You rarely find crowds there as it's so big, even when the carpark is full.

PorridgeAgainAbney · 18/03/2020 14:28

That's lovely. After a trip to a supermarket earlier that left me in tears (nothing actually happened, I just despaired at the selfishness of some shoppers, complaining because I let a very elderly man go in front of me), this has cheered me up.

Isthistrueor · 18/03/2020 15:07

Very lovely, I’m also a member and I think this is a wonderful gesture. I’m an English heritage member too and they have completely shut up shop.

fussychica · 18/03/2020 15:27

Do check each property you are considering visiting before setting out as several near us, Stourhead, Dyram Park and Laycock among them are pretty much closed. Even the parkland at Dyram is closed to allow the land to recuperate from winter flooding.
Been a member for many years and actually went to Stourhead on Monday to take advantage of a rare sunny day. Much to my surprise was very busy for a Monday with the overflow car park in use. We took a flask to avoid the need to enter the coffee shop!

This is a lovely gesture and I hope it will encourage more folk to join when we come out the other side.

NoToast · 18/03/2020 18:14

I have membership anyway but really pleased they've done this. Very decent gesture.

SarahInAccounts · 18/03/2020 18:16

English Heritage are closing all staffed sites but free sites will remain open.

Sadly the NT are closing even the parkland due to being overwhelmed yesterday. Why couldn't people just behave?
