Has anyone used a camera in their mums old people’s home? Is it legal and if so have you got any advice ie whose wifi will it connect to and could the home tell that there’s a camera on site? Many thanks 😊

So you want to secretly film in your mum's nursing home?

Pickles89 · 23/03/2020 01:44

What a creepy thought! Highly illegal I should think. Would your mum be in on it?

My mums wedding ring was removed off her finger while she was asleep in a care home. She also had unexplained bruising. My sister wanted to place a hidden camera in her room.
I knew if she done this I would

Have watched it constantly
If I had witnessed any abuse I would have completely lost my shit and ended up doing time.
We did report our concerns to the care commission.

I can't comment on the ethics of a teddy cam but elder abuse is extremely real.

A family friend suffered terribly in her final years in a nursing home from the abuse of one nasty nurse. Another (very brave) nurse secretly filmed it at one point on his phone and the whole thing ended up in a court case.

The sad part was the friend kept mentioning things that were happening but in vague terms and people just wrote it off as the dementia and her being crazy.

This is why I am worried, my mums mentally fine so I totally believe what she’s saying but if the member of staff is doing this to mum what is the member of staff doing with the less with it residents! The care home keeps emphasising the room is my mums and no one is allowed in it without her permission so I was thinking that the camera would be in her “home “.
