What to do with cat?

My mum has recently passed away, leaving behind an 8 year old silver mackerel tabby. Currently, I’ve been going to the house 2/3 times a day to care for him, but this is unsustainable. I can’t take him in as my partner has allergies. I feel so sad for him, on top of losing my mum, and I can’t bear for him to go into a shelter. But what else can I do with him? He’s a well cared for cat with no health problems and documents stating his parents, grandparents and even great grandparents. Someone suggested contacting the breeder, but after 8 years, I’m not sure what she’ll say. I’ve thought about putting him online, but worry about people not being genuine. I just want him to go to a loving home. Does anyone know the best way to achieve this?

Speaking of antihistamines, MSE website had a link to supplies with free delivery at www.moneysavingexpert.com/family/cheap-hayfever-remedies/?utm_source=MSE_Newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_term=17-Mar-20-50597958-3839&utm_campaign=nt-oneliners-two&utm_content=8

(I ordered some after reading that they could help with coved symptoms but don’t take my word for that)

I have two young kids who don’t really understand death and was close to their grandma. I just don’t know whether trialling taking him in would just be too upsetting if we couldn’t get over the allergies. Or whether he’d like living in our busy house which is on a road. I just don’t know, I’m going to get through the next day or so and then try and make a decision. Thank you everyone for the advice, definitely given me something to think about.

It sounds like a shelter would be the best place - one that actually rehomes. We got our much loved cat from one and they are very careful to vet homes. I'd be much happier with that than an ad online. I am so sorry for your loss.

You don't need to visit 2 or 3 times a day. Once every 2 or 3 days is fine. Cats are pretty self-sufficient

I hope this poster doesn't have a cat! Unbelievable Hmm.

I am sorry for your loss, op.

Is it a house cat or allowed outdoors? You could ask the neighbours? My neighbours cat comes round to ours all the time when the doors are open, if anything were to happen to them I would happily adopt him. You might find that he has a favourite neighbour who he often spends time with, that way he wouldn't be stressed out by moving too far and could stay in his familiar territory.

I’m sorry that I didn’t acknowledge your loss, it was a bit insensitive of me and I sympathise with your predicament. A good shelter may be the best idea, or a neighbour of your mums as someone mentioned? There are going to be a lot of older people who will be feeling lonely in the next few months and I’m sure this beautiful boy would make a great companion for someone Flowers
