I nearly cried in Aldi today

I went to Aldi to do my weekly shop today, as well as pop a couple of extra things in just in case we get stuck (flour, veg to freeze), plus a chocolate milk for the homeless guy outside the store. I only had a limited amount to spend, basically carer's allowance for DS2, so was being quite careful & also bearing in mind that neither DH nor I will be able to work & it's not been a great year already for us.

It was very busy but everybody was being very nice & polite & chatting to each other, which was quite nice. The queues were massive! When it got to my turn & the total flashed up, I didn't quite have enough money for everything, by about £2, so had to put 1 thing back, very embarrassing Blush

But then when I got outside, the lady who had been behind me at the checkout came up to me with the item & said she had bought it & wanted me to have it! She was so kind, I was bowled over. Made me quite emotional that people can be so kind.

I just wanted to share that story because it has restored my faith in humanity. Thank you so much Aldi lady Flowers

There are some lovely people out there. Once someone behind me in the queue in the post office took my parcel from me and paid for it to be sent as my child was having a meltdown and I had to leave. I know she posted it as it arrived at Destination. Only the cost of a couple of stamps or I wouldn’t have let her do it but she was very insistent in any case . So so kind.

This is so lovely to hear. There are a lot of kind pp about. I was on FB today and local groups have already been set up in my area with hundreds of pp already offering help to those who are isolated, elderly or disabled.

Lovely OP, I teared up too. I needed to read that little bit of positivity in these stressful times.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 16/03/2020 13:07

That is so lovely - on your behalf and that lady's.

There is good still in the world. Yesterday I was hearing about people cashing in on e-bay having swept shelves clean of hand sanitiser etc- and it broke my heart that anyone could behave like this - but now your lovely post (and action) have lifted my spirits.

God bless.

Lovely lady if there were more like you we would all get through this easier.

MooseIsLooseInTheHoose · 16/03/2020 13:11

Is there an "Acts of goodwill during coronavirus" thread yet? Anyone want to start one if not? :)

LimitIsUp · 16/03/2020 13:11

That's lovely. I thought I was going to read that you had nearly cried because of a bad experience, not a good one.

Furble · 16/03/2020 13:11

Absolutely wonderful, thank you so much for sharing. We need more stories of such human kindness in these strange times.

Kindness breeds kindness.

Bless you both and others like you Flowers

confusedofengland · 16/03/2020 13:12

You are all too kind. I honestly didn't post this for praise but to praise the lovely lady & show that the positive is still getting through in these times. Maybe I didn't need to write about the chocolate milk but it felt relevant, I don't know.

I wish I could do more, who knows maybe in time I will be able to. But kind words, actions & deeds will go a long way to getting us through this. United we stand, divided we fall.

That. In bucketloads.

Not so much ‘be kind’.

We need to act kind.

purpleboy · 16/03/2020 13:23

Lovely to read that, gives you some sort of hope for our species.

That's a lovely story, at a time when so many people honestly don't know what to do for the best, to hear something like is heartwarming.

There will come a time before long when you can do another person a favour.

GroggyLegs · 16/03/2020 13:39

one woman cleared the shelf another woman called her selfish ( good on her) hilariously store manager came out point to the sign saying 1 pack per person and she had to do the walk of shame and put them back few people clapped .
