Has anyone had to have their wedding ring cut off?

I'm feeling a bit stupid. Took my wedding and engagement rings off when I was pregnant with DS(2) and should have got them resized before I put them back on. I'm not sure what stopped me (vanity, lack of time, whatever) but now they're on and they won't budge. Tried everything: elevation, ice, oil, that ribbon trick where you wind the ribbon round your finger and unravel it. My finger is more swollen than usual now and I'm trying not to panic! Blush

Talked myself out of going to the fire station round the corner and will wait for a jewellers to open on Monday morning. Why do these things always happen at the weekend when you have to wait for things to open??

DH is sitting up with me because I can't sleep for thinking about it. He was a bit bemused by me before bed but now he's showing a bit more concern. Still feel stupid!

OP that looks pretty bad. I'd be trying to get it looked at before tomorrow if I was you. As PP said, it's possible you'd lose the finger if circulation was cut off

saraclara · 15/03/2020 10:52

Surely there's a jewelers open today? I'd get it cut off asap.

undercoveraessedai · 15/03/2020 10:54

Go to a jeweller and ask them - we were convinced mum's would need cutting off, and a wonderful lady who had clearly done it before managed to get it off in one piece for her. It's now being resized, and as all this happened after Dad passed away, she saved us a lot of sadness.

NeutralJanet · 15/03/2020 10:57

Is there not an H Samuel open near you today? I went there to get a ring cut off when my eczema flared and my hand was too swollen to remove it, took them seconds to do it.

JustUrggghhhh · 15/03/2020 11:15

I wouldn't leave that, sorry! Hope you get it sorted asap.

How2Help · 15/03/2020 11:16

That needs to come off today, the sooner the better. Can you get to a large shopping centre which most likely will have a jeweller shop? If not it is not a waste of A&E time.

StylishDuck · 15/03/2020 11:20

@NeutralJanet Thank you! I don't know why I didn't think of H Samuel! I've just rung my nearest one and they can do it so going to head down now.

Thanks all for persuading me not to wait! I'll post an after picture of my poor battered finger when they're off Blush

Ouch that looks sore Flowers. Good luck.

alexasaymyname · 15/03/2020 12:02

Ouch, that is really red and swollen. I would definitely say it needs to come off. Glad you have found a way that doesn't involve sitting with a load of sick people in the middle of a Coronavirus pandemic 😀

squashyhat · 15/03/2020 12:12

In a Myanmar hospital when I broke my wrist. Very neat job and once back home a jeweller resized it as I have swollen knuckles due to arthritis.

TaTuirseOrm · 15/03/2020 12:13

Yes, I had to ask a jeweller to cut mine off too, honestly it was a very quick snip and it was done. Then paid to have app my rings resized.

StylishDuck · 15/03/2020 12:23

All sorted! Lady in H Samuel was lovely.

The relief was incredible! Grin

Well done for following the excellent Mn advice. Glad it went ok and I’m sure they will be able to resize your ring for a reasonable price.

Ouch! That still looks sore. Glad you got it sorted.

JustUrggghhhh · 15/03/2020 12:57

Glad you are sorted. I inwardly winced when I saw your first pic. Hope your poorly finger feels better soon Flowers

DownUdderer · 16/03/2020 07:39

Phew what a relief!

Whydoesit · 16/03/2020 08:03

Did the rings survive ok and are they getting resized?

StylishDuck · 16/03/2020 08:31

The rings are fine and can be resized no problem. I'll wait a few weeks and go back in. The finger looks much better today!

A massive collective thank you to MN for making me see sense and not waiting until this morning ThanksWine
