Bite on ankle -Goa

Tywysogesgymraeg · 14/03/2020 20:22

Does anyone know what might have bitten DD? She's in Goa. The bite isn't particularly itchy or hot, but her foot is very swollen.
She's taken antihistamines without much effect.
She's panicking, but there's not much I can do from here!

Difficult to say what has bitten her but pharmacies in Goa are really well equipped as in they can supply meds that are prescription only in the UK. Maybe advise her to find one.

Vinylsamso · 14/03/2020 20:41

Good Doctors in Goa. She,ll be OK. Very cheap for her to pop to Doctors today.

I did something similar in Italy. No idea what bit me but I needed some kind of injection to get the swelling down and some antibiotics. Tell her to find a doctor. Good news is it cleared up fast.

Is her other foot as swollen? (After the flight perhaps)

Local Pharmacy or Dr . There will be biting infects that aren't in the UK, they should recognise the bite marks and advice .

God Luck

Tell her to draw a biro mark around the swelling so that she can track it.
Then she needs to seek medical advice.

Tywysogesgymraeg · 14/03/2020 21:32

I've advised her to see a doctor in the morning. They're about 5.5 hours ahead of us I think.
Thank you for the reassurance re the medical provision in Goa. Makes me feel a bit easier at least.

Will msg her now and pass on your comforting reassurance.

She has big ankles anyway (family failing on DHs side), but it's definitely swollen.

Also good idea red marking the size of the bite.

Thanks everyone.

Bacteria can enter through a bite and cause cellulitis - happened to me through an ant bite when I was gardening a few years ago. It needed antibiotics.

LovingLola · 14/03/2020 22:11

Ask her to send a photo of both feet together so that you can judge the swelling

HappyHammy · 14/03/2020 22:14

Are there several bites by her big toe as well, looks painful poor girl. Hope dr can sort it out for her,

glitterbugsparkles · 14/03/2020 23:22

Our hotel had a doctor that came out to us when we were sick in goa. They should be able to help find medical care for her.

MrsJoshNavidi · 14/03/2020 23:45

She's backpacking with friends and staying in a hostel.
I've messaged her about all your helpful comment and she's going to find some medical advice in the morning. I've asked her to let me know how she gets on, so we'll come back with an update.
Thanks everyone.

Crunchymum · 14/03/2020 23:55

Why did you name change? @Tywysogesgymraeg and @MrsJoshNavidi

CandiceSucksCandy · 15/03/2020 07:42

I came up like that with bed bugs but I had them all over my back, I think I'm a bit allergic to them. Nobody else reacted but did get bitten.
She might have had a small reaction to a bite.
A dr. Can give her some antihistamines

MrsJoshNavidi · 15/03/2020 18:41

Don't know why the name change. I didn't do that, but I do use both names. Glitch in the system??Wooo??

DDs swelling has gone a bit today.
I've only just come home from work and she's probably in bed now, so still waiting for a proper update.
