If so, do you have a safe or is it squirrelled away under a floorboards?

Are you a burglar? Grin

MaccaPacca81 · 14/03/2020 10:00

Yes, I mean no Wink

I only ask as my partner refuses to keep more than 50 quid in the house but I to keep a few hundred for emergencies.

Nearest cash point in a 10 minute drive so it can be a pain.

A 10 minute drive is a pain ! Thank god you dont live where i live OP, our nearest cashpoint is now 15 miles away but if the road is blocked( often) then it is 23 miles away. But then we dont need cash as there is not many places to spend it, the shop and pub have tabs for everyone.

Likethebattle · 14/03/2020 10:17

I barely use cash so never have any on me. Last time I used actual cash was before Christmas. Cards and Apple pay all the way.

GreekOddess · 14/03/2020 10:18

I don't usually however after spending a couple of hours on the telephone trying to release funds as my accounts were all put on hold for no reason I think it's time to stick a couple of grand under my mattress just in case!

Oldraver · 14/03/2020 10:18

We rarely have cash but have an emergency £20 ish in a drawer

iwanttoshakesomeppl · 14/03/2020 10:19

I have a couple of hundred hidden away. An old colleague use to hide money under her carpet in every corner of their rooms lol.

Celeriacacaca · 14/03/2020 10:20

I keep cash (around £500) in the house. If cash points fail during a natural disaster, or the banking system is interrupted, as it was in my home country not so long ago, then cash is king. It was the only way to buy goods for a week or so.

gamerchick · 14/03/2020 10:21

I like to have around 300 quid stashed away. I recognise not everyone is in a position to have chunks of cash stashes but I think if you can then you should.

IceColdCat · 14/03/2020 10:23

No

thesunwillout · 14/03/2020 10:30

Yep, in a safe in a safe safe place.

thesunwillout · 14/03/2020 10:30

Safe is a weird word

bruce43mydog · 14/03/2020 10:31

Yes about £1000 in cash its nice yes got a safe it's nice to know its there

JunoJigglewick · 14/03/2020 10:32

I have approx £20 in 1p and 2p coins which, at a push, could be used in a shop or as a weapon (jar is heavy).

BeyondMyWits · 14/03/2020 10:32

Yes - a few hundred "bug-out" money. Not saying where it is.

JigsawsAreInPieces · 14/03/2020 10:33

Yes. Nearest atm is 9 miles away.

heidbuttsupper · 14/03/2020 10:35

Never. I don't even have money in my purse.

SunshineAvenue · 14/03/2020 10:35

Yes, at least £100 squirreled away in 'odd' places (not telling you).

For emergencies.

Dacaday · 14/03/2020 10:37

Yeah usually about £100, I keep it in an old cat food container at the back of the cupboards. Ds usually has about the same, again kept in old food tins.

DoubleAction · 14/03/2020 10:38

No, I rarely have more than £10 in my purse.

I used to keep a small stash for emergencies it's so rarely used now I don't bother. I can do a bank tf if I cant pay by card.

Oliversmumsarmy · 14/03/2020 10:40

I haven’t carried cash for years.

I don’t even own a purse let alone a handbag.

I have never had the need for emergency cash.
What exactly would constitute an emergency that great that would need cash

If cash was the only way to buy food in a national crisis then I guess I am screwed

ragged · 14/03/2020 10:41

Not as policy, but DC get paid in cash so then I take their cash as it builds up & bank transfer the amount to their bank account. Saves me going to ATM.

Beautiful3 · 14/03/2020 10:44

We keep around £50 in the house. My sister and brother got burgled and learned the hard way. Because of that I no longer keep large amounts hidden at home. I regularly empty the kids piggy banks and put it in their accounts. Its much safer in the bank.

joffreyscoffees · 14/03/2020 10:45

I've just found a fiver in a drawer which surprised me, we don't generally have a need for cash so wouldn't have it stored in the house.

20viona · 14/03/2020 10:46

I have zero cash in my purse let alone my house 🤣 I always use card.
