Uncovered food in shops

Surely under the current climate shops should be covering self service food (cakes, pastries, bread etc). People were sneezing and touching products before the outbreak. Has anyone else stopped buying these products too?

I don’t usually buy uncovered food anyway and I certainly wouldn’t now. Also all the lipstick and cosmetic samples should be removed from beauty counters.

Doobigetta · 13/03/2020 15:17

Yeah I don’t think anything has changed where that’s concerned. If anything it’s slightly less disgusting right now because more people might be washing their hands.

I don't buy uncovered pastries bread rolls etc never have or loose cheese ham etc

adaline · 13/03/2020 15:28

I don't buy it anyway - God knows who's touched it!

I have always been surprised that uncovered food is allowed out on display at the best of times, let alone during a health crisis such as this.

CrocodileFondue · 13/03/2020 15:53

My DS wanted a croissant today but after watching someone coughing over the display in the supermarket, I told him there were none left.

Shopaholic100 · 13/03/2020 16:34

I don’t blame you CrocodileFondue. I had the same experience in the new Wenzels shop in town, someone sneezed over the bread rolls just before I was about to pick one up, yuck! Never been in again.

I have to confess I did previously like the bakery croissants from Lidl. But no Corona topped croissants for me anymore.

Dithering Doris good point, I hadn’t even considered cosmetics.

Doobigetta, you’re right at least there’s more chance of them washing their hands until they touch the dirty trolley or basket. Grin

I used to buy an uncovered pastry here and there but I've stopped doing it. I've generally always been pretty laid back about food hygiene but I'm not so much any more!

Namethecat · 13/03/2020 18:23

Lots of uncovered rolls in my Morrison's today.
I'm also going to admit to being the first person who normally would always buy loose fruit and veg but not now. Lots of plastic covering my broccoli ? Great I'll have some of those !

mencken · 13/03/2020 19:52

surely cooking the veg will kill the virus?

wash the fruit unless it is a banana.

MolotovMocktail · 13/03/2020 21:52

It’s disgusting isn’t it? A new Gail’s opened in my area, I walked straight in the door to see a fly crawling all over the uncovered cakes. Walked straight out and will never return.
