DD has lost her phone!

She's 11, Year 7, and has lost it at break time in school.

She's been to the office in case it's been handed in, I've tried ringing it but it goes to answer phone. I told her to retrace her steps from the day.

Aghhhhhh! What happens now?

Erm how do we know? Buy her a new one? Hope it turns up? Tell her not to have it out at school?

bigchris · 13/03/2020 14:31

Could be her friends are having a joke with her

But I'd check your insurance policy and buy a new one

SoCrimeaRiver · 13/03/2020 14:37

Can you brick it to stop it being used.

I imagine she learns to manage without a phone because she wasn't careful enough with this one, or you buy her a cheap calls only phone as it does the essentials she needs.

I don’t know what you’re asking op, what do you mean what happens now??

SoupDragon · 13/03/2020 14:40

I'm guessing it has no "find my phone" Option.

I once had to lock DS's iPhone and it had the option to display a message so I put my number and a request to call.

bemoreeverything · 13/03/2020 14:45

Aghhhhhh! What happens now?

???

Well if it isn't found you replace it or don't replace it. That's up to you.

dontgobaconmyheart · 13/03/2020 14:46

What do you mean what happens now though OP? Nothing does, she lost it, that's on her and is something that happens in life, although obviously it's disappointing. Couldn't any of her friends have called it at the time?

All you can do is check the lost property (unlikely to turn up let's face it), claim on insurance or buy a new one/she will need to. I wouldn't get her anything expensive phone-wise after this though.

BaconAndAvocado · 13/03/2020 14:48

Just spoke to her school and a very helpful receptionist said it happens a lot and will almost definitely turn up.

There's no way we could afford to get her another one.

The reason I posted itsashame is because I wasn't sure if I needed to inform the phone company.

if its an iphone you can log on to apple and use find my phone to locate and or disable

BarbaraofSeville · 13/03/2020 14:53

If it's on a contract, you probably need to inform them, or do whatever is needed to get it blocked, so if someone does get their hands on it they can't sell it or run up a massive bill on premium or overseas calls.

You can probably also do something if it's on PAYG, so at least it's useless to anyone else.

It might get handed in, you never know, and the office say that many do, probably as people realise they're useless bricks once reported lost anyway.

BaconAndAvocado · 13/03/2020 14:54

Thanks Flowers that's really helpful.

Itsashame · 13/03/2020 14:56

I see op. Why didn’t you just say that though? No wonder people were struggling with this thread

JenNtonic · 13/03/2020 15:36

Just keep asking them if it's turned up 🤷‍♀️ maybe give the receptionist your number ?? (although they're usually very busy) awww I feel your pain and good luck OP

BaconAndAvocado · 13/03/2020 16:16

Bloody hell! She found it.......it was in her bag the whole time.

motorcyclenumptiness · 13/03/2020 18:16

In case there's a next time, Google find my device is v useful to trace/lock a lost phone

MrsGrindah · 13/03/2020 18:22

No not time for another bag...time for both mother and daughter to get a grip! She needs to be more careful about expensive possessions and you need to understand how phone ownership works!

bemoreeverything · 13/03/2020 18:23

Time for another bag today this weekend methinks.

Why does she need another bag? It was her phone she lost, it was found in her bag, so surely she has her bag Confused

Sally872 · 13/03/2020 18:25

Yes, it is the bags fault. Problem solved.

BaconAndAvocado · 13/03/2020 18:30

iOS meant to say another bag tidy not today 😂😂

OP posts:
BaconAndAvocado · 13/03/2020 18:34

Thanks motorcycle I'll look into that.

I've also shown her a better place to put her phone within her bag, I.e. not in the main section!

At least it has been found. DS1 lost his phone when he forgot to take it out of his pocket before going in the sea. It's currently somewhere in the Atlantic ocean. Luckily it was insured for loss or damage, but ffs...
