She has had bad cough for a week
Has been off school
It is catarrh making her cough
She feels sick and hasn't been eating as much as normal
Don't want to take her into the drs as cough will infect everyone
Will it clear up on its own ?!

Call 111 for advice

Changeofname79 · 11/03/2020 10:32

You should he getting medical advice given the current situation surely not asking non medics on MN Hmm it's fairly well advertised at the moment what to do

BlackInk · 11/03/2020 11:02

Well, I think the current advice is to just carry on as normal unless you've travelled to a high risk area or knowingly been in contact with someone with confirmed Coronavirus isn't it? The government have only said that they MAY look into advising people to self isolate / report to 111 in the near future...
However, as your DD has been poorly for a whole week it may be worth calling your GP. They may want to see her to check for a chest / throat infection.
As far as I know they wouldn't test for Coronavirus in this situation. A good proportion of the population must have cough / cold symptoms at this time of year.

A build of of mucus is not common with Covid-19 (its a dry cough not a chesty cough) so chances are she has just got a normal bug.

Definitely ring your surgery and ask for a telephone conversation with your GP.
In the meantime, no offence, but hoovering the bedroom can help nature fight back.

It's not coronarivus

Hi,

We recently had a Consultant Paediatrician Specialising in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine in to do a video about coughing - might be helpful?

(obvious disclaimer - we're not doctors!)

Thankyou 😃
