Which musical to watch with 10yr old DD, School of Rock or Hairspray?

It will be DD's birthday in a few months and I want to get her tickets to a musical. She loves performing, singing and drama and she would love to go and see a live show.

Both Hairspray and School of Rock are in our area later in the year. I have never seen either show but have seen Hairspray the movie. DD goes to a small drama group and they have performed songs from the show so she knows the story line. But I'm wondering if she would enjoy School of Rock more due to the child performers and songs.

Has anyone seen either and can recommend? Thank you

DD was 10 when we saw School of Rock and she absolutely loved it. Saying that, she knew the storyline inside out.

She currenlty (12, nearly 13) does Hairspray as a school performance. At 10 she wouldn't have liked the love story bit of it.

School of Rock closed last week.

Just read your message properly! If it is coming near you I would definitely go and see it over Hairspray.

Just tried to book tickets for school of rock. I was checking my calendar on my phone to make sure there was nothing else arranged for my chosen date. I couldn't understand why my dates weren't matching up. Turns out it's here in 2021, not 2020 🙈

I don't think DD will appreciate a gift she has to wait over a year to see. However, that's next years birthday present sorted!

Do both! One this year, one next year 👍
