Crying and fighting Sleep

My DD is 4 months old and MY LORD does she fight and cry at every nap time and bed time. Of course this is 10x worse if she's overtired so I'm very very careful to try and avoid this as much as possible. As well as avoiding her being undertired because that gets the same response! A balancing act indeed!
I know that crying before sleep is just normal for some babies and as she gets older it's getting less intense.
I was wondering if others with similar little sleep fighters could tell me what age their baby stopped this?
I read articles etc about babies "drifting off to sleep" and just laugh.
I sing my daughter a particular lullaby at bedtime and she immediately starts crying when I sing it now as she knows that means bedtime.

I mean, my 2y 8m toddler still regularly cries when he needs a nap and at bedtime. He did go through a phase when he was about 1 where he seemed generally more settled but now he is trying to drop his nap we are back to fighting sleep again and restless bedtimes.

@KatnissK oh boy! I'll buckle up for the long haul then! I'll be popping into my 30 year old daughters room at her house with her partner "don't mind me love, just have to get her to sleep" and then she'll shout and cry while I rub her belly Grin
