Bulk buying toilet rolls

Just wondering how you would react if you saw someone put 3 packs (9 rolls each ) of toilet roll in their trolley.

I was doing my fortnightly shopping this morning and usually would buy 2 packs for my family of 5. Today I thought I would get an extra pack as we have all got a cold and using extra tissue as it is.

I couldn't believe the looks I got off people. One lady was just staring at me tutting and shaking her head. I assume she thought I was stockpiling thanks to Coronavirus.

Same happened as I loaded them at the till.

I actually felt really uncomfortable and embarrassed not that it's any of their business what I'm buying anyway.

So just wondered would you give disapproving looks if you saw this or just mind your own business?

I couldn't care less to be fair. Just ignore them. You or family may have IBS and use lots usually. It's no ones damn business.

I bought a Wowcher deal for 60 rolls for £17.98. We'll have enough for the whole year lol

My mum often does this. She buys toilet rolls for her home and for an office of 12 people.

Redshoeblueshoe · 09/03/2020 14:22

I usually buy a pack of 24, so that's barely any different.
There was plenty of toilet rolls in my local supermarket yesterday.

I'd wonder why they didn't get it at Costco, because their own brand version is excellent quality and cheaper than even the best supermarket offers.

That and a few other things at good prices make it worth having the membership by itself and anything else is a bonus. Just about everyone who shops there has a giant pack of toilet roll in their trolley, you can't buy less than 40 rolls at a time.

I just hope they still have some when I go later this week, because we're down to about 8 rolls so due to stock up on this and a few other things that we get from there.

I'd mind my own unless you emptied the shelf whilst others waited, then I might think to myself that it's a bit shit but I wouldn't show it because i don't know your situation.

Because the nearest one is over 30 miles away.

@BarbaraofSeville our nearest Costco is 50 miles away - bit far for bog roll 🤣

I’d think nothing as when I run out of toilet roll, I buy 24 a time. The 24 pack is cheaper per roll and toilet roll is something that gets used, we all need it at the end of the day

TreeTopTim · 09/03/2020 14:34

I would give you a side glance and wonder if you really needed three packs. My local supermarket has no toilet rolls, tissues, hand sanitizer, soaps, cleaning products. It is also running low on rice and pasta.

My main peeve was that there is hardly any medication. I needed something for my young baby and I can't get it. This means that my young baby will suffer.

I normally buy lots of things in bulk from costco, toilet roll included. Due my 2 monthly or so costco trip so went yesterday, no toilet roll just a huge empty section and people stood wild eyed.
Went to Sainsbury's, so much bare space but bought 2 packs of 9. Sarky comment off checkout lady 'stocking up are we?'

Didn't feel in the grand scheme of things 18 rolls was extortionate but she clearly thought so.

pelirocco123 · 09/03/2020 14:43

I tend to over buy on toilet roll, at the best of time . I took 2 weeks doing an online shop and must have forgotten what I had already added, as I realised late sat night I had ordered 4 packs , I did get 2 though and I felt I had to explain to the delivery driver I wasnt hoarding them lol

daughter ordered 2 frozen pizzas only got 1 and they substituted toilet roll , very odd

Supermarkets will quickly restock shelves , they have limited on site storage so have to call stuff in from their warehouses

Eropsawlkasd23455 · 09/03/2020 14:45

We bulk them from an internet supplier and buy 200+ rolls at a time 🙈😂
We are coming to the end of ours so doing the same again..... what will our neighbours think? Hahaha!
