Help with which iphone to buy?

I have had an iPhone 6s which has now died on me. I would like to be a newer model.

The main thing I want upgraded is the camera as I like good photos. However I so don't want to spend 1k on a phone.

Anyone got any advice on say the iPhone 8plus - iPhone xr-xs and max?

Thanks Smile

The iPhone 11 is less than the XR, I think? I have the XR which is great; DD has the 11 pro which takes absolutely stonking pictures

Greenbutterlfy566 · 09/03/2020 19:36

Ilove - thanks. The 11 is more than the xr.

I just upgraded from a 6s to an XR, contracts were very similar between the XR and older models, but much cheaper than the 11, and the summaries of the ‘upgrades’ with the 11 didn’t seem worth it to me.

I wouldn’t bother going from 6s to 8. It’s such a incremental change, and I’d rather go bezel-less with the newer models. I went from 6s to XS.

I have a XS. Very happy with it. The XR and 11 are a downgrade from XS in my opinion. The 11 Pro has a wonderful camera though, my XS camera isn’t bad but I’m not blown away by it. Much better than 6s regardless

Mim-thanks.

Mnth- how do you think the camera compares between the xr and xs?

Don't bother with the 8.

I'd go for an iPhone 11. It's a right balance between size, features, and price.

But if you've got the cash then a Pro won't go wrong.

(I have the Product Red iPhone 11 and its the best iPhone I've owned so far)

@mnthrowaway202020 the camera system in the 11 is the same as the 11 Pro minus the telephoto lens.

It's noticeably better than the XS and the XS doesn't get the wide angle camera...

mnthrowaway202020 · 09/03/2020 20:28

@TheWorldAsh absolutely not, I’ve seen the 11 in action and it’s worse than the XS. The telephoto lens is more important than wide angle imo, hence why they left it off the 11 to begin with...

The 11 is a budget iPhone, the 11 Pro is a premium iPhone - and the successor to the premium iPhone XS. The 11 isn’t automatically better than XS because it’s newer, as it’s the successor to the budget XR. Therefore it is of inferior quality.

I have the 8plus and love it. I got it as I wanted to keep my monthly costs down. It takes great pictures.

I got an iPhone 11. £28 per month for 2 years, £200 upfront. Go via uswitch and check out the deals.

TheWorldAsh · 09/03/2020 22:25

@mnthrowaway202020 Smart HDR, Deep Fusion, Night Mode, 4K video at 60fps, 12 mega pixel front camera.

The 11's camera system outperforms the XS in every aspect apart from it missing the telephoto lens. You want that you need to stump up for a Pro or Pro Max. You also get a OLED screen then too.

The iPhone 11 isn't a budget phone (it sits in the price of the old flagship iPhone models) and it happens to be Apple's best ever selling iPhone for a reason.

But if the OP could get a good price for an XS then they'd still be getting a great iPhone.

Try mobile phone direct . They have some very good deals atm

I've just upgraded from the SE to the XR. Quite like it but it's massive compared to the SE. My only issue is that I seem to accidentally take screenshots all the time, there's buttons at either side which you press together to take a screenshot and I keep doing it just by picking it up. Photos are great though. I got mine from affordable mobiles for £30 per month (£40 before cashback).

Thewindsofchange · 09/03/2020 22:48

I got an XR last January. If you can get to an Apple store they are great for taking you through it all. I looked at what they could do and the price. I was thinking of going for an 8 (up from a 6S) but the price difference to an XR wasn't that much considering what extra you got. I felt the jump up to the next one, XS I think it was at the time, was a lot of money for not much more extras.
I was locked into O2 on a sim only contract and it worked out much cheaper to stay on that and buy the phone direct from Apple as with O2 the phone price was the same but they wanted to charge me loads more for the same phone plan and lock me in for 3 years.
Plus if you buy direct from Apple you get an awesome 30 min session with a lovely person on the phone who will give you lots of tips on how to use the phone.
