Abnormal bleeding?

For the last three or four months I've been experiancing some abnormal bleeding. It seems to be quite heavy bleeding at ovulation for up to 5 days with non of my usual period symptoms i.e. no increased sensitivity, or headaches or breast swelling only the odd twinge in my lower left side, but not painful. Then a week or so after that bleed stops my "true period" starts up with all my usual symptoms and it lasts a bit longer and is fairly heavy lasting up to 7 days. I am bleeding a bit after sex but then I'm bleeding all the time at the moment.

I have always had heavy periods and had a copper coil fitted 3 and a half years ago and it took a long time maybe 18 months + to settle down and would often last for up to two weeks but they were actually less painful than they used to be.

I am in my early 40's with no children (through choice). I had a smear test last autumn which came back clear and the nurse said everything looked fine? I am not in any real pain just the odd mild twinge which I think might be my coil which still seems to be in place.

I have a family history of fibroids and previously had a cervical erosion caused by hormones in my 20's which caused some mid cycle bleeding but not as much as this and was actually picked up by a nurse visually during a smear test back then.

I also struggle with anemia so am worried I'm losing too much blood at the moment. I am also very overweight at about 245lbs which won't be helping my hormones etc.

I am not sure if I should go to the doctors as I don't want to waste anyones time what with the coronavirus crisis but would like to know what is going on with me.

Anyone else had these sort of symptoms and if so what was it?

Do you still have the copper coil in? I'd bet that could have something to do with it. Also you could be peri menopausal

Yeah I think the coil might be the issue, I was hoping it would work for me! I could be perimenopausal but have no other symptoms at all just yet so just worried its something else I'd need to see a gp about.

I’ve been to the gp about mid cycle bleeding twice and they’ve taken me seriously.

Please go.

I know my friend had a similar experience with the coil. It took ages for it to settle on the first place was fine for ages and then the bleeding started again. I'd go see the GP about it but the first thing they might do is remove it and see if that helps.

Also my MIL first symptom of peri was irregular bleeding as they called it. After that came everything else
