Sudden facial hair in a 12 yr old

Hello, I noticed today that my 12 yr old DS has got dark hair above his upper lip. He is fair skinned and the hair is darker and new so I thought it's a sign of puberty.

This has followed on from me seeing his bits yesterday and I was shocked.....they've grown by about ten times the size since I saw them last (about six months ago) and there is pubic hair as well. His bits now seem way too large for his body!

I went to the NHS and other websites about puberty in boys and they all say that facial hair is one of the last signs, after voice changes, chest hair, growth spurt.

My son has got the first signs of puberty (increased penis and testicle size and pubic hair there).....and literally nothing else. He hasn't grown in height, his feet haven't grown, he has no underarm or chest hair, no voice changes, no Adam's apple. But suddenly this hair on his upper lip is supposed to come last!

Anyone else had this sort of topsy-turvy approach to puberty in their 12 year old sons?

My DS has just turned 11 and has BO, pubic and underarm hair. It does come as shock cause he’s still my little boy. He’s also not self conscious yet!

Well I am just confused that all the literature says facial hair is the last sign of puberty...and in this case it's really early on, before everything else. Looking for reassurance I guess :)

I think OP is worried that she has read lip hair is the last sign of puberty and is worried that her ds has not grown taller . As far as I remember my two ds had lip hair long before they reached adult height.

You're not being very kind to your son, sharing details of his body changes on here. Puberty happens. I'm not sure why you're looking at his genitals either, doesn't he deserve privacy?

Huh? It's called puberty. My 13 year old is going through it right now. Can I ask what you thought happened to young boys as they grow up?

My 15 year old had upper lip hair from about 11/12. The rest of the facial hair is just coming now. (With the rest of puberty in between)

Same with 13 year old. Upper lip hair a year or so ago, everything else is following, no sign of beard yet.

I don't think 'looking at his willy' is the biggest deal. My son is always prancing about naked as he's not self conscious at all so I wouldn't try and make something out of that

Exactly. He prances around naked and I try desperately not to look, hence why I haven't actually seen it for about six months. He thinks it's really funny to dance around with it waving around . Yes, he is immature for his age in behaviour . But yesterday when he was jumping about naked again it caught my eye and I was a bit shocked at the size of the thing and the sudden pubic hair. He is my first and it just seems all wrong that he is growing up so fast and I didn't have anyone to ask about this in RL.

Sorry if I've sounded a little weird. I didn't mean to be. I was just a bit worried really that facial hair has developed without all the signs that the NHS website said should develop before that. I am reassured that other boys have had top lip hair for a while before having to shave etc and while the other signs of puberty catch up. I am now prepared for a sudden growth spurt and that his feet will grow fast.

Yes I see your point. It just shocked me I guess. I wanted to drag him off to the GP to check it was normal! I need to get a grip clearly.

Haven't seen it in 6 months fuck me you still wiping your teens arse for him to!! Make that go appointment for yourself!!

Evening, everyone. We've had a few reports on this thread so just wanted to pop by to let everyone know that they OP has been around a good few years and there's nothing we can see behind the scenes to suggest she isn't genuine, currently.

We hope that puts some minds at rest. We know we get some odd posters on this sort of subject from time to time so just thought we should pop by and let you know this OP hasn't just arrived today or anything.

My son got underarm and pubic hair from age 9. Facial hair is very varied as one of my stepsons (29) barely needs to shave once a week and another every day.
Don't worry about where his hair is growing. I would tell him to tone down the naked prancing about.

My ds2 grew 11cm taller in 12 months between 15-16.

I would think the final stage of facial hair means very thick dark etc not just the fuzz that they get at some point.
I'm not sure puberty happened to me in the exact order it usually does, just like teeth sometimes come through in random order .
