DD2 wants to dress up as spaghetti and meatballs for Purim (Jewish festival when kids wear fancy dress). I can sew white wool onto a red top but has anyone got any ideas how to make the meatballs? Can I just scrunch up old magazines and paint them brown? I thought of getting some foam balls but not sure where to get them from at such short notice. Thanks.

Have you got any brown wool and any time to make some Pom poms?

Balls of papier mache would be easier to shape and smooth, but they'll take a while to dry.

I haven’t got any brown wool and don’t think I can get any today.
I thought solid papier mache would take forever to dry.

Red balloons only slightly blown up?

I’d scrunch up newspaper into a ball shape, cover it with silver foil then paint it

cotton wool balls dipped in strong coffee or paint?

Do you have any old brown clothes? Or could buy from a charity shop? Small pieces of round brown material with a simple running stitch round the edge, stuffed with cotton wool or paper then pulled tight and stitched on.

Textured material could be good

Scrunched up paper inside pantyhose/ low denier/flesh coloured tights would work, they'd twist easily to hold the paper in place and you can normally get cheap ones in primark or the supermarkets, nice and light to attach to the costume too.

You’re all geniuses! I think I’m going to try scrunched up paper in old tights painted brown.
