What can I take for non-stop coughing?

I’ve had a cold all week but last night at 8 I started coughing and I haven’t stopped!! It feels like a bit like I’ve got a hair stuck in my throat. I’ve tried honey and strepsils which help a bit but not for long. Now I cough and think I’m going to throw up.

Any recommendations for something I can try??!

I find that jakemans sweets work really well - no idea why but I always get those for a cough.

Oil of Oregano, few drops in a humidifier and breathe. It’s great for lungs and works as an antiviral and antibacterial.

honey and lemon tends to work for me.

Gargling.

Raw garlic. One close crushed first thing each morning. Swallow it down and chase it with a full glass of water.

Feel your sinuses drying out. It's supposed to take a fortnight to shake off a cold but it's never taken me more than a week.

Pholcodine. You have to buy it in the chemists.

Itstheprinciple · 06/03/2020 17:22

I'm currently on the Pholcodine as I was the sane last night. It seems to have taken the edge off and I'm not coughing constantly anymore. Hoping for some decent sleep tonight.

I drink Manuka honey, lemon and ginger. Helps if the central heatings not on too high as well. That and the heater on in the car tends to make me cough more.

CornishPorsche · 06/03/2020 17:42

Go see a pharmacist. I'm using two liquid products they recommended - one for day time and a "knock me out" one at night.

Try decongestants to cut down post nasal drip.

jaggynettle · 06/03/2020 18:12

Pholcodine Linctus from the chemist. It really dampens down the couch. I've had similar all week to the point where I feel like I'm choking - hope you feel better soon!

Freeze a water bottle and while In bed you can sleep with it in your mouth as it defrosts you get drips of water which helps to stop coughing in the night.

For temporary relief sucking on a square of dark chocolate is good

Nat6999 · 06/03/2020 18:34

I was like this a couple of weeks ago, the only thing that helped me was night nurse, I took a half dose twice during the day & a full dose at night.
