Problem with my grandma’s landline - advice?

Hi, just wondering if any of you can shed some light on this?

My DGM has been having problems with her landline (she is 90 and doesn’t use a mobile), when she’s on the phone to anyone the phone will make noises like someone is dialling a number. I was on the phone to her earlier today and it happened twice, the second time there were definitely more ‘beeps’. She’s worried that someone is trying to hack into the phone.

Apparently my aunt reported it to BT but nothing has been done, is there anything I can do to sort it?

She has very recently been widowed and this is another thing on her list to sort out and it’s unsettling her so I said I’d see if I can help. She doesn’t use the internet so it’s down to me, my DF and his sisters to try and sort it, any advice appreciated Smile

How old is her phone? Is it cordless? Is her hearing going? Could she be pressing the buttons with her ears?

Thanks @carlyclock - her hearing isn’t great but it is fine on the phone. It’s cordless and she’s had it quite a few years, I’m not sure though. I did suggest she was pressing the buttons but I don’t think she is as she’s always used the phone in the same way and it’s only just started happening in the last few weeks.

Hold she be accidentally pressing a "dial saved number" button, thereby accidentally pressing one button would dial a series of numbers?
