Had an abscess, very bad with multiple antibiotics, first time having an issues. Almost normal now. Dentist wants to pull it out but I feel it may be rushing things..... if it feels okay can I leave it?

Yes.its your tooth
But there’s a risk of recurring abscess and pain Plus other possible complications

Your better off having a discussion with the dentist about this and they can talk you through your options going forward

You had an abscess. Your dentist is not rushing things ffs.

You can leave it but you'll get another abscess. Next time you could end up in a&e, you could end up septic.

You can do what you like OP but surely the dentist knows best.

What is the timeline here? How long has it been going on for. When you say multiple antibiotics do you mean at once and it cleared up straight away, or antibiotics failed so nee ones were tried etc. Is it as a result of tooth decay in the affected tooth?

The dentist will have seen an x ray- if they haven't suggested a root canal I would assume one is not possible hence why extraction is on the table. A dentist would always want to keep a tooth in od save a tooth where it was possible as it is always better to do so. There is no replacement for a real tooth that is as good as a real tooth.

Is this a private dentist? If NHS you could get a private second opinion but tbh would be expecting them to say the same really.

If it's had a very bad abscess with multiple antibiotics I highly doubt a root canal would be suitable tbh.

Either way it's not really 'okay' to leave it. Obviously no one can force treatment on you but the tooth is infected and will remain like this until it is removed or potentially root treated. But I think by the sounds of the severity of the infection it needs to go.

An abscess is not completely treated with antibiotics- they just calm the symptoms down.

Treatment is either root canal or extraction to completely cure it but root canal isn't always possible.
