Secondary appeal

Hi all,
We received our school offer this week. It wasn't any of our preferred schools and when I told CK he had never even heard of the school he was offered. We believe he didn't get into our chosen schools as he is not baptised, but has attended a faith primary school. Our 1st choice school accepted 2/3 children from his primary school however it is not a feeder school but they are less than 0.5 miles apart. And come Under the same. Borough. The school offered does have a bus route but this is 40 mins plus and the bus route is unreliable nor are there any other children in this area who travel to that school. Can anyone please provide any advise on appealing this, I am beside myself with worry.

How many choices did you put down? You will need to look at the appeals procedure and place him on a waiting list for preferred school. Your current headteacher may be able to help aswell.

When you appeal check things like classroom measurements and class sizes.

Current head has no influence. You first need to check whether your application was handled correctly and why he was refused a place, then where he is on waiting list. If baptism was a priority criteria presumably those who got in met that.

You LA will give you details of the appeal process. Your current school HT should remain impartial as there may well be several children in the same class disappointed with the school they’ve been allocated.
