Are you still taking painkillers? Codeine can cause serious constipation.

Drink plenty of water and increase your soluble and non-soluble fibre intake. If you don't go tomorrow I'd suggest seeing your GP

Neptunesgiraffe · 04/03/2020 20:32

I was given a suppository in hospital. Not much fun, bit it did the trick.

GroggyLegs · 04/03/2020 20:32

Are you taking Codine? If so, stop if you can cope without it. I refused codine after my second section for this very reason.

Fibogel, water, prune juice. Lots of it.

Good luck & God speed Flowers

Are you taking iron tablets? They sent me home with them but I quickly stopped taking them because they make you constipated. And feel terrible!

butwhateverfor · 04/03/2020 20:34

Hope all went well in the end. Morphine and codeine are major culprits of this. I got prescribed some weird orange fibre drink thing.

NoWordForFluffy · 04/03/2020 20:43

Dried apricots are your friend post-c section. I ate probably rather more than recommended, but they worked!

Blondiecub0109 · 04/03/2020 20:51

Advice above re codeine is good.

Also I was explained to me by community MW that when you’re late stages of pregnancy, your colon is very squashed. It’s got a lot more room now, so can take a few days to erm, refill.

Stay away from lactulose, I had the worst gas. Like a sewer....

Movicol sachets. Orange juice with bits. Nuts, seeds, whole grains. Plenty of water. Move as much as you feel comfortable. Little and often.

Congratulations on your baby

I can recommend grape juice.

Also olives, and the liberal use of olive oil when cooking - it helps to 'soften' the poo

Thegirlwithnousername · 04/03/2020 20:58

Glycerine suppositories are what you need.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 04/03/2020 21:02

Rye bread! You can put a load of toppings on it, banana and honey is my fave.

I tried it for the first time a while ago and nobody warned me of its laxative effect so ate 4 slices with different toppings. My god, I was 'empty' for days.....

Heres a study to back the rye bread claim up

IKEA888 · 04/03/2020 21:06

glycerine suppositoroes can buy them in supermarkets .
instant relief

Lazydaisydaydream · 04/03/2020 21:09

Lots of great advice above, but also drink lots of water. More than you think you should need!!

Hope everything else is going well Flowers

loutypips · 04/03/2020 21:09

Make sure you're drinking plenty. It will help to soften things.
Fybogel is also good!

Keggy1942 · 04/03/2020 22:00

I felt i was going to pass out when i tried to push i jst dont know what to do. I rang 111 who told me they would have a dr call me in the next 6 hr. Im. Hoping by tomorrow everythings softened and the soreness has gne, really getting me down im so uncomfortable

Hope you get some relief!

Whatevah · 07/03/2020 06:40

OP, you could try some pressure on your perineal area? You could have a slight prolapse, I find some pressure applied here straightens the bowel and makes it easier to go.
Childbirth really is a glamorous process, isn’t it?

tryingtocatchthewind · 07/03/2020 06:45

Oh lord that first poo after a c section, I remember it well. You have my sympathy. I finally managed one and everything inside felt so odd that I thought I’d given myself a hernia! I rang the midwife in tears who came straight out to reassure me it was normal and things had just moved around a bit as my poo was so big and hard eurgh!
Why don’t think forewarn you how bad it will be.
Needless to say after my second c section I took nothing other than paracetamol and ibuprofen. What a difference.
