How do you search old threads?

I see often on threads that people are able to locate other threads that posters have created, or they can search for old threads that were entertaining and then provide links for others. How is this done, please?

In the blue bar at the top of the page, immediately under 'My Mumsnet', there's a magnifying glass. Click that and it will take you into a search page. Or for advanced search, you want www.mumsnet.com/Talk?showsearch=arch
