‘Insulting’ much loved pets abusive?

DD is horse mad and is very lucky to have her own pony.

Due to the shite weather this winter and resulting mud, poached fields, mud fever, boggy bridleways and a water logged school, pony hasn’t been turned out as much as usual and DD hasn’t been able to ride much so her pony is a bit “fresh” Hmm

DD took her to an event last weekend and pony was a bit lively. Nothing dangerous but she pulled some interesting moves, threw in some bucks, did quite a lot of sideways trotting and was generally a bit (lot) over excited

Anyway, was out with a group of friends last night - some close friends and some friends of friends that I kind of know.

One friend also rides and she asked how DD had got on at the weekend, I said fine but pony had been “a bit of a knobber”. Friend replied that her boy had been a complete cock at a similar event the week before.

A friend of a friend was sitting the other side of my friend heard us talking - told us we were abusive, we should be ashamed of ourselves, she felt sorry for our poor animals and that we were just awful and she hoped our horses would find nicer owners who actually cared about them one day - before walking out.

We also have a dog and a cat, they’re all very much loved and well cared for but they are dickheads sometimes - the cat especially Grin

Yea, nah, she sounds like an absolute idiot. I’ve called my animals far, far worse but they couldn’t be more loved or more carefully looked after.

Windyatthebeach · 04/03/2020 11:30

Our recently lost ddog was affectionately called Fathead.
She cared not one jot as long as we talked in a nice non abusive voice!!

IHaveBrilloHair · 04/03/2020 11:30

Crikey I call my cats names all the time, yet I adore the fluffy wee shites and they are completely spoiled.

😂 She sounds like a bit of a knobber too.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 04/03/2020 11:31

I can only think that you are all arseholes in general and she had had enough! Maybe calling your horse a cock was the last straw Grin

I never call my cat by his name, he’s usually “little bastard”! He is awful though.

BearSoFair · 04/03/2020 11:33

Our cats get called little shits almost daily...they are! Not abusive at all, it's not like they understand the words and I'm assuming (hoping!) no one is doing it while shouting or acting threateningly towards the animals for them to pick up on.

LimpidPools · 04/03/2020 11:36

Friend was a numpty. It's not like the animals are going to be crying all night with hurt feelings.

You and your conversation sound perfectly normal. She doesn't.

grandmasterstitch · 04/03/2020 11:36

Surely you know that while cats and dogs are oblivious to our name calling, horses and ponies are not and they can really take the jump Grin
I used to call my napping, stubborn, frisky pain in the arse horse all sorts of names. It didn't make him worse. I mean it didn't make him better either but oh well

DesLynamsMoustache · 04/03/2020 11:37

What a loon.

vampirethriller · 04/03/2020 11:38

My dog is known as Dick For Brains.

HulksPurplePanties · 04/03/2020 11:39

What a weirdo. Lets not even get into the whole thing that animals respond to tone of voice, not words.

My cats often respond to my cheerful "Tuna's served you little bastards!"

Songofsixpence · 04/03/2020 11:39

Oh, I’ve called them far worse names than that too.

It’s all affectionate, they’re all much loved but all 3 definitely have their moments

We were all a bit bemused, she just ranted then walked out.

Give her the number for the RSPCA and tell her to report you. Then get her to report back on what that say🤣

Bluebutterfly90 · 04/03/2020 11:41

I call my cat things all the time. I still love her to pieces, but I reserve the right to call her a dickhead when she's being one, or a goblin because she looks like one.

Your friend of a friend is being ridiculous.

Yummymummy2020 · 04/03/2020 11:41

Pets can be assholes don’t mind your friend!!! It’s not as though you are mean or Treating them badly!!!

PickledLilly · 04/03/2020 11:42

My cat is called dickface more frequently than her actual name. Funnily enough, she doesn’t seem to care as long as I get up and down eleventy million times a night to open doors and windows for her.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 04/03/2020 11:43

What a bloody muppet Grin

AngryAtYouTube · 04/03/2020 11:44

Haha ignore.

I love my cats like they were my children.

Doesn't mean I talk to them (out of human child ear shit of course) in such a way.

My old (and stinky) cat probably thinks her name is ShitArse. And the other gets called all sorts of abusive names.

They're very happy and know we love them though. Surely it's part of the joy of pets? All in good humour and they don't know at all.

BumbleBeeFlower · 04/03/2020 11:46

Yep, I often call my horses (and dogs) interesting names. Yesterday alone one got 'wanker' shouted at her after she escaped into a fresh paddock and proceeded to loon around and trash it and the Shetland got called a twat after dive bombing through the fencing to get to said mare 😩
Of course, I adore my animals but sometimes the names are called for! 😂

BarbedBloom · 04/03/2020 11:47

Our cats have been called worse and from the looks they have given me sometimes, I can't imagine they aren't thinking the cat equivalent.

My cats could not be any more spoiled. They eat better than we do, I literally pour glasses of water for her as her ladyship will only drink freshly poured.

Absolutely ridiculous.

TwoHeadedYellowBelliedHoleDig · 04/03/2020 11:50

Jeez. We are constantly fat shaming our total lard arse of a cat and laughing at him as he attempts to squeeze his bulk through the cat flap. Doesn't stop him begging for food every half a hour as if he's not been fed for weeks. He's also so stupid he thinks outside each different window is its own microclimate and we open each window for him whilst insulting his intelligence for doing so.

Shinyletsbebadguys · 04/03/2020 11:51

Oh for goodness sake your friend is an idiot

Ddog is often called a twat because she behaves like one , but yesterday I spent 40 minutes scratching her ears because she gets itchy ears ( the outside just to be clear ) and often makes a guest appearance on conference calls because she likes to sit on my lap and see the new people ( colleagues only I'm not THAT unprofessional)

However she is also quite often a twat and a knob (this morning she ran into a door because she didn't want to stop looking at her box of biscuits to look at where she was going....if that's not being a knob I'd like to know what is...) doesnt mean I dont love her (and let my legs go dead because she likes to lay on a pillow propped on my legs which are up on the footstool in the evenings).

Hmmm maybe I should give her the number to the RSPCA

Songofsixpence · 04/03/2020 11:54

Of course, I adore my animals but sometimes the names are called for!

Grin definitely! Especially when they’re executing ballet moves (albeit pretty good ballet moves) in the middle of a car park 🤦‍♀️

DD’s pony is a rescue, she’s absolutely covered in scars that show really clearly every time she’s clipped. I thought about showing her the photos - of, you know, real actual abuse - but she’d stormed off by then.

Shinyletsbebadguys · 04/03/2020 11:54

Ddog that is , not your friend because she would probably use it. Yesterday I called ddog a needy twat because I had to buy a bed and place it carefully away from draughts to put in the study because she gets very sad if I'm working and she doesnt have a comfy place to lie (because apparently the sodding sofa in there specifically bought for dog and children use is not good enough Hmm)

Erm maybe I am a bit over invested in ddog come to think of it
