I'm doubting myself here!

I'm positive in the olden days they were call DIB DABS.

DD3 (17) has explained the logic of the DIP Hmm yesdear and yes, obvious sense blah di blah.

Can anyone from the seventies recall, please. Google is fuseless.

Yes they were always Dib-Dabs, @ItsGoingTibiaK Double Dips were a completely different sweet set up as it had two flavours of sherbet and a solid swizzle sweet to dunk in them, Dib Dab was a red lolly that you dunked in plain white sherbet.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 03/03/2020 19:06

I always understood dib dab to be a colloquial mispronunciation that caught on because it rhymed

fedup21 · 03/03/2020 19:09

Nope-they were always Dip-Dabs, but people didn’t say it properly!

fedup21 · 03/03/2020 19:10

But dib and dab don’t rhyme!? Confused

ItsGoingTibiaK · 03/03/2020 19:18

I love how when you Google “Dib Dab” you just see lots of packets of mis-captioned Dip Dabs. People really do see what they want to see.

practicallyperfectwithprosecco · 03/03/2020 19:23

Didn't dib dabs have a stick sweet and you dipped them in orange or pinky coloured sherbet?

You still get them in the blue sweet shop tubs

Do you mean a Double Dip?

ItsGoingTibiaK · 03/03/2020 19:26

@practicallyperfectwithprosecco That’s a Double Dip. Dib Dabs didn’t exist.

I always thought they were Dib-Dabs. But I think its just because that rolls off the tongue easier than Dip-Dab.

I also thought the lollies were foot shaped when I was a child (80s/90s)

practicallyperfectwithprosecco · 03/03/2020 19:28

Oh yeah!

So ive been calling them wrong for 40 years 😂

ItsGoingTibiaK · 03/03/2020 19:31

That’s a Chupa Chups Crazy Dip!

1066vegan · 03/03/2020 19:34

I always thought they were dib dabs (remembering from the 70s and 80s).

Somebody's gone and changed all the pictures on the Internet and replaced them with dip daps. No other explanation possible.

If it was "definitely" dib-dabs, why is there no evidence of this?

SoupDragon · 03/03/2020 19:42

From the Barrett's website

foxyknoxy30 · 03/03/2020 19:43

Defo dib dabs

skankingpiglet · 03/03/2020 19:43

It was always Dib Dab in our house too (I was born early 80s if that helps at all).

Don't always trust Google. Does anyone remember Apple Jack penny chews? Try finding pictures of those... they've been erased from history thanks to a argument over the name with a cereal.

PhoneZombie · 03/03/2020 19:45

I called them dib dabs too.

Well done OP - you've uncovered an excellent example of the Mandela effect.

JigsawsAreInPieces · 03/03/2020 19:46

I always said dib-dabs but maybe it was a mishearing! I want one now but the sherbert would home in on my sensitive teeth and cause me all sorts of issues!

kazzymac · 03/03/2020 19:46

It's a dib dab in our house, I'm so confused that it's not!

TeddyIsaHe · 03/03/2020 19:46

I was thinking about the Mandela effect just yesterday!

In my head it used to be Sex IN The City, and apparently it’s AND? Really? I’m sure this isn’t right.

SoupDragon · 03/03/2020 19:51

Don't always trust Google

How about the manufacturer's website?

fatherbrianeno · 03/03/2020 20:07

There's also no evidence of the white milk Mojo - easily the worst one so the internet is forgiven.

PorpentinaScamander · 03/03/2020 20:12

Thanks @ItsGoingTibiaK that name doesn't ring a bell. But I actually only remember the foot lollies from a camping holiday one year so maybe we only had them that once. I have a very clear image in my mind of child me standing on a campsite eating it Grin

goose1964 · 03/03/2020 20:13

We called them sherbet dabs, 70s South Wales.
