Antique ring remodelling ideas

Hello all!

I'm hoping for some Mumsnet wisdom and ideas for a vintage ring I have been given which used to belong to my GGM.

I think it's from 1920s. It consists of a round dark blue sapphire and 25 old cut diamonds of around 0.8ct in total. It also has pearls (one of which is cracked) which I don't like.

The band is massive, I can even get it easily on my thumb so it definitely needs resetting and remodelling.

I was going to use most of the diamonds in the setting, but I guess less is more sometimes.

Here is a photo of the vintage ring in its existing state (the photo is not of the ring on my own finger as I am a size J in case you think it fits, as it doesn'tSmile.)

Here is also photo of my existing rings I would wear on my other hand.

I would want the band to be platinum to match.

Anyway, please fire away with inspiration.

Thank you so much!Smile

  1. Get the sapphire and the diamonds around it reset and sized for you into a "halo" style ring but without the stones on the shoulders similar to this www.london-victorian-ring.com/sapphire-and-diamond-cluster-ring-in-platinum-with-yellow-gold-band
  2. Forget the pearls.
  3. Get the remaining 14 diamonds set into "flower" style stud earrings like these www.mrharoldandson.com/jewellery-c40/earrings-c2/diamond-stud-earrings-c21/18ct-white-gold-2-00ct-flower-cluster-diamond-earrings-p750

Agree with those who think it’s beautiful as is.

I don’t like any of the pics of rings linked all look very ubiquitous.

Maybe go for a pendant?

or

  1. sell it and buy something in platinum which is to your taste.

I also doubt the diamonds/ring is worth as much as the jeweller has quoted.

I'm off to pick the remodelled ring up tomorrow!

What do you think?

To remind you all, I have attached a photo of the original ring and the remodelled version.

Huge thanks for all your help. I think I'm really pleased with it. 😊
