Please - anyone know anything about heart loop recorders?

I had a loop recorder fitted last week. It was incredibly painful to have implanted even though I was told it would be painless. (It made me scream out in pain). I am worried that it may have been fitted in the wrong place? The Doctor who fitted it was very dismissive of my concerns.

But now I’m on day 4 and as advised have removed the dressing. The incision is still covered in Steri-Strips but I can’t see or feel the recorder at all. I was warned that due to my small frame I would be able to see and feel it. This is adding to my anxiety that it’s been implanted somewhere it shouldn’t have been. Can this happen or is just the Sterri-Strips covering the visible/ palpable bump I was warned I would have?

I had a loop recorder in the past.
It was really painful for about a week. My consultant said it was because they need to go through a few layers of flesh to implant it.
I couldn't locate it either after it was fitted but when the swelling went down, it was easy to find.
If you are concerned you should ring the person who fitted it, even just to put your mind at rest. It's enough to be worrying about your heart. Thanks

Thanks jaimebravo. Yes the worrying about my heart doing stupid things was enough.

It doesn’t hurt at all and hasn’t hurt since it was implanted. It’s just the actual fitting of it made me scream in pain. Another nurse actually came to find out what was going on. The Doctor told me it wasn’t pain just a pushing sensation. It wasn’t “just” pushing. It was real, intense, awful pain.

Do you know roughly when the swelling went down? As I said I’m on day 4 now but I’m so covered in Steri-Strips it’s hard to tell.

My son had one and you could see it through his chest, looked like a usb under his skin

Sterristripoff · 02/03/2020 22:49

Yes Momof2boys1girl that’s what I was expecting. The fact I can’t see it all and the unexpected pain is making me increasingly concerned. But where could it have gone?

Is it the usb one or the little tubular one?
My swelling took about a week to go down.

It looked like a thinner packet of chewing gum. I just need these strips to come off so I can get a better look. (Think I have to wait 7 days). I want to go to my GP but not sure what they could do or how familiar with them they would be. Could always scan it to make sure it’s where it should be but don’t want a false reading either...

There is not really anywhere it could have gone other than somewhere between your skin and your ribs. As you said there is some pain/pushing as it is pushed into the pocket, and it would be almost impossible for it to have left it’s pocket and gone off elsewhere. Hope your swelling settles down and all is okay.

Thedot90 I think I’ve freaked myself out by reading case studies of the thing migrating.

Hi I have had a heart loop monitor fitted a couple of months ago and the area where it is feels lumpy - I can actually feel a couple of lumps where it is, has anyone experienced this as I'm very worried
