Name change as doing this with workmates and don't want it linked to my usual account.

We are doing a project on the best advice you have ever been given.

The aim is to start group discussions get people talking. So if it's funny or linked to a song lyric or similar all the better.

Or even if not, the best life advice you've ever been given Smile

'I won't back down' - Tom Petty

Butterymuffin · 02/03/2020 22:16

Yes, the words of Baz Luhrmann's Sunscreen, in its entirety. So wise.

Never pat a burning dog. [I googled, it's a jazz track by Ronnie Scott, among others]

Don't eat the yellow snow. [Frank Zappa]

Not a song I'm afraid, but my Mum's immortal advice to me as a teenager: "If you're going to do something stupid, make sure you're sensible about it."

(I have followed it pretty well I reckon, too - done lots of stupid interesting stuff, but with a degree of risk management Grin )

Splendidd · 02/03/2020 22:27

If you're under him, you ain't getting over him.
Dua Lipa. Never a truer word Grin

Break shit- limp bizkit

Excellent advice for anyone with anger issues, it was particularly helpful the day I first heard it.

Come as you are - Nirvana.
My personal style advice.

It's my life- Bon Jovi

Tillygetsit · 03/03/2020 02:46

Don't Look Back in Anger. Oasis.

"One page of the Bible isn't worth a life"

The Village by Wrabel

Probably not the "best advice ever"; more like something that resonates; just because something can be quoted from the Bible doesn't mean it's the absolute truth or should be used to justify bigotry. God is bigger and better than one quote from the Bible.

“It’s ok not to be ok” Jessie J

This is our family anthem when things get tough - Oh Child, Five Stair Steps

Ooh child
Things are gonna get easier
Ooh child
Things'll get brighter

Some day, yeah
We'll put it together and we'll get it undone
Some day
When your head is much lighter
Some day, yeah
We'll walk in the rays of a beautiful sun
Some day
When the world is much brighter

If not then Be young, be foolish but be happy

Be young, be foolish, but be happy
Be young, be foolish, but be happy
Don't let the rain get you down, it's a waste of time
A waste of time
Have your fun, live everyday in the bright sunshine
The bright sunshine

Toomanygerbils · 03/03/2020 04:54

Or if you want something lighthearted “I put my trousers on, have a cup of tea and I think about leaving the house“ Blur. Always good to wear pants when in public and tea is essential before going anywhere

Toomanygerbils · 03/03/2020 04:58

Although away from song lyrics to real life advice. I always loved the “make sure you wear clean underpants in case your hit by I bus one” from my mum. Like imagine I’m undergoing emergency surgery to save my life, and my mum is out there thinking “god I hope she had clean pants on”...😂

wallflowersunited · 03/03/2020 05:16

Don't you forget about me

CallItLoneliness · 03/03/2020 05:19

Not related to a song, but "in 5 years you will be 40 anyway, whether you do the degree or not. If it is really what you want, you should do the degree".

TheNestedIf · 03/03/2020 05:20

@TrainspottingWelsh - Break Shit was also my very first thought. It's just one of those days...
