Adult autism referral

My GP has referred me for an autism assessment. Online I can see the letter forwarded from him and it lists my episodes of anxiety and depression over the last 10 years. I'm really concerned this is going to count against me and I'll be dismissed as just being anxious and/or depressed. Has anyone any experience with this?
Also what should I expect from an autism assessment?

I had an autism assessment & was diagnosed last year, I waited 20 months for an appointment & had to attend 2 appointments, the first was to discuss the questionnaire they sent out about my childhood, the second appointment I saw a psychologist who after a further discussion about how I was affected now gave me the diagnosis, both appointments lasted 90 minutes.

Anxiety and depression are co morbidities with autism.

So don’t worry.

They will ask questions about your mental health, relationships, areas of strength and difficulty. Mental health will be seen as part of the wider picture and not count against you. The assessors will want to help you get a better understanding of yourself.
Hope it goes okay.

My husband went to the dr last year asking for a referral for autism. The dr told him it was irrelevant at this stage in his life ( he has a decent career, married, is 48) and said he would only treat him for the symptoms of his anxiety with antidepressants. In fairness, he’s much easier to live with now that he is on them but I do wonder if we should go back. There’s only one GP at the practice and no other practices near by which are taking patients.
