3month old only poos when stimulated

Long story short.
My 11 week old has acid reflux and is on anti reflux cow and gate milk during the night, and normal milk during the day. We tried using anti reflux milk for each feed but it made her really constipated. We've tried adding gaviscon to normal formula but it has the same effect.

Anyway, her poos are still thicker than a normal babies, and she only goes if we raise her legs, cycle legs, belly rubs etc.

If she's just on normal formula all the time, she brings it back up and during the night ends up crying due to the acid reflux.

Does anyone had any suggestions on how we could help her start to go by herself, or has anyone been in this situation... Did your child end up going without help 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm hoping she grows out of the acid reflux soon, as I've read a lot of babies outgrow it by 3 or 4 months 😬🤞🏻

Any tips or suggestions to help her poo or even help with acid reflux are most very welcome.

Is it possible she has an cows milk protein intolerance perhaps? Might be what’s causing the reflux. Tongue tie can also cause fussiness that can look like reflux.

Gaviscon causes constipation too. My DD got constipated on normal formula, it looked like magic sand and could only go with us wiping. so we had to put her on a comfort milk, unblocked her but she then got reflux. Now use comfort milk and colic bottles, poops and no puke! Try cooled boiled water inbetween feeds

If this were the case the anti reflux at night wouldn't be working and you'd have the opposite problem to constipation

With an 11 week old you ask your GP not unqualified people in the internet

I have spoken to my gp who basically said it's common for babies this age to be constipated and she'll outgrow it...

@Elephantonascooter in our case we saw mild improvement on ranitidine but only full improvement with removal of CMP. Given gaviscon can cause constipation it can be confusing.

I had very unhelpful advice from GPS and it was only through my own research from multiple sources that we found a solution. Great to see your GP but they’re often not knowledgable about nutrition or intolerances, or tongue tie for that matter.

My daughter was very much the same way, there was a lot of crying and screaming (from the both of us) but your GP is right, she grew out of it. Sorry OP, I know it's a miserable thing! Can you get minifom drops over there? They seemed to help my daughter at least, although they were an almighty pain as need to be refrigerated and given before each feed.

Pre made little bottles of cow & gate have a laxative in them. Give her one or two a day that should help.

@damntheman

Thanks for your reply, I'm not sure about the drops you mentioned but I will find out. Glad to hear that it's not just me having pooping issues, 😂

@thankfullyalive
Wow I wasn't aware premade bottles had laxatives in them. I will certainly give it a try, 😊 thanks x

DS had very severe reflux and developed quite complex gastro issues, one of which was severe constipation. I was advised to give a small bottle of cooled boiled water every day with a few drops of squeezed orange juice and it was really good in keeping him regular. This was 12 years ago though, so may not be best practice now so check it out with GP or HV.
