What do you put in your Chillys bottle? Ice?

(Other bottles are available!)

I wanted to put in ice-cubes but they don't fit!
So I'm chilling my water in the fridge with ice first and then putting it in.

Am I doing this wrong? :-)

You can buy long thin ice cube trays. Think I picked one up in TX maxx but have seen them on Amazon

frazzledasarock · 29/02/2020 23:21

Crushed ice?

My DC have chillies bottles and they really keep cold water cold, one of my DC found the water too cold so left the bottle with the lid off hoping the ice would melt. Still hadn’t melted the next afternoon.

So she joe just uses cold tap water as it stays cold anyway.

Luzina · 29/02/2020 23:26

I fill mine with water from a brita filter jug which i keep in the fridge. Works really well as my tap water is super hard and tastes gross unfiltered

KenzoBaby · 29/02/2020 23:34

Thanks guys! Good idea about ice not having to be ice-cube shaped! :-)

When I have put ice cubes in I put them in the neck first then run the water in from the tap over the ice cube and it melts enough to drop in. (Quite proud of that one! 😆)

Normally the water inside is cold enough not to need ice cubes though.

Fizzysours · 01/03/2020 06:54

Fill it up with normal tap water and pop it in the fridge the night before. It then stays chilled all day.

You need this....

I’ve never put ice in mine cold water stays cold enough tbh. I fill from the fridge.

IgnoranceIsStrength · 01/03/2020 07:39

I have an ice cube tray with circle shaped ice, they fit perfectly in a chillies bottle. Can get them from most cheap shops

TalaxuArmiuna · 01/03/2020 07:40

you only need to put in a small amount of ice, and then only if it's not cold enough already out of the tap. I don't normally bother with ice but when I stayed in a holiday house that had a crushed ice dispenser I used that just for the novelty and found that generally the bottle was still rattling with unmelted ice 12 hours later. couple of cubes smashed with a rolling pin should be fine.

sittingonacornflake · 01/03/2020 07:51

I just add water from the fridge. No ice.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 01/03/2020 08:16

Agree with others add water from the fridge or put water in the bottle in the fridge.

Even the cheap knockoffs work a treat.

ThanosSavedMe · 01/03/2020 08:31

@Fizzysours are you leaving the lid off the bottle when you put it in the fridge?

AgeLikeWine · 01/03/2020 08:36

These bottles are also great for keeping wine or G&T cold for a picnic.

Maybe I might be able to use mine for this purpose if we have any decent weather ever again....

Fizzysours · 01/03/2020 10:02

@ThanosSavedMe nope, it chills nicely with the lid on!! Deffo needs overnight though

FourEyesGood · 01/03/2020 10:31

Just water straight from the tap - it stays cold all day.

carlyclock · 01/03/2020 10:34

I just break the ice if the cubes are too big.

Letseatgrandma · 01/03/2020 10:42

Fill it up with normal tap water and pop it in the fridge the night before. It then stays chilled all day

It’s not recommended to put them in the fridge actually.

dementedpixie · 01/03/2020 10:47

I've seen the thin ice stick trays in tesco too

chocolateteapot20 · 01/03/2020 10:50

We have some Ikea ice cube trays that let you make long ice cubes - a bit like Cadburys fingers, a bit longer, they'd be ideal for a Chillys bottle.

PointlessAddict · 01/03/2020 10:51

I’ve got the long thin ice cube tray. Love my Chilly’s bottle!

Snuffkindle · 01/03/2020 13:42

I have hot water in mine. Stays hot all day, even when I keep it in refrigerated store at work. Love it.

ThanosSavedMe · 01/03/2020 19:09

@Fizzysours surely your bottle is broken then. The point of them is that they keep the same temperature inside for hours no matter what the outside temperature is.

If you put room temperature water in then, it will stay room temperature. It won’t actually chill the water for you.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 01/03/2020 19:14

AgeLikeWine, have you seen these? Doesn't help with the weather though I'm afraid!
