Gift for a christening?

Christening tomorrow at 10:30am. I’ve been horribly disorganised as usual and haven’t even thought about it until now.
I’m not religious and haven’t been to one as an adult. Am I supposed to take a gift? Or is just a card appropriate? Money in a card?

And what do I wear? Same kind of things I’d wear to a wedding, or less formal?

Help!

Yes a gift usually but money in a card at this late stage is fine.

I would wear smart trousers and top or semi casual dress/skirt with a bit if jewellery and make up

You can get vouchers from most shops now quite easily. Perhaps one for Boots or Next might be nice for them to choose an outfit or something. Likewise cash for the baby’s account also fine.

I mean supermarkets that will still be open now.

Thanks! Vouchers sounds like a good last minute idea @onlytowin, I can nip out in the morning first thing. Smile

Most christening guests at our church wear reasonably smart outfits. The regular congregation can be anything from 'Sunday best' to jeans! So I'd definitely do smart casual as a minimum but easily dressed up with some jewellery and make up, if that's your thing.

Hoping you have a really lovely time.

Thanks @PurpleCrazyHorse!

If you’ve got time to visit a bookstore, nicely bound copies of children’s classics make a lovely gift. Even Tesco’s sell picture books - e.g, The Tiger Who Came to Tea or any Julia Donaldson.
