Bank has taken my UC payment!

I'm completely fucked. I bank with Tesco and have had a £1000 overdraft for about a year. I'm always overdrawn and am working to crawl out of it. UC paid my monthly payment in today, it was a slightly higher one if £1020 so took me out of overdraft. Within 1 hour fucking Tesco cancelled my overdraft so I have £20. £20 fucking pounds for the month. I have 2 dc and have no food, no rent money no pack lunch, no gas electric, fuck! Do I have any protection from this at all? I'm on the bus home now and will call them as soon as I get home I'm shy to do it on the bus, will they put it back? Absolute fuckers!

They were probably programmed to take it if that amount goes in .

I remember being at the supermarket having to make the call between baby milk and nappies when my card was rejected and I only had about £3 cash

Happened here once. The ex took the wrong card it was one that she lost and found again in the intrim I'd cancelled it!.

I went to pay for the stuff, asked the manager how often does this happen?, "around 20 odd times a day we have cards rejected"!
said he, Waitrose this was mind! Seemed that most put stuff back till they get to what they could afford.

Had the nappies and milk SOS from DD2 more than once, told her never let the little ones go hungry! She was sobbing her heart out over it:(

I hope you get this sorted asap op. I banked with tesco and they screwed me over when i got a new mobile number. Despite telling them on the phone what my new number was they didnt note it and i got locked out my account for days. Id been paid during the time and had no access to my money, they werent helpful at all despite me telling them i have a 4yo to look after. Ive since shut my tesco account and moved to tsb

Thats a great update! I'm glad its sorted. Its utterly shit being a lone parent. I've just got myself out of debt after 5 years. I promise you it won't always be this awful. It isn't an overnight fix sadly.

I’m glad you got it sorted. Just make sure you speak to Tesco bank about the best way to clear or move the O/D before the interest rates change in April. You need to get in writing a full explanation of what charges you will be paying so you can make sure you don’t end up worse off.

We had a,similar panic a few weeks ago ,dh ended up.phoning the bank ( Lloyds) who confirmed they have changed the way they display the overdraft !
