Flying with controlled drugs

We are travelling to Poland next weekend. It''s the first time we've flown since Tramadol became classified as a controlled drug. Has anybody flown with controlled drugs and can you tell me if a copy of the prescription is sufficient or if a letter from the doctor is needed? Thanks

Thank you xmaselves I did look at that before I posted but got confused (easily done for me) If I'm reading it right it seems that schedule 2,3 0r 4 drugs just need proof that it is prescribed for you i.e. copy of prescription but schedule 1 would need a letter?

Many times. I take concentrated oramorph abroad - so it’s a liquid and over 100ml per bottle. I take a copy of my prescription and make sure the labels are on the bottle rather than boxes. Have never had a problem. I wouldn’t be worried travelling inside the EU. Most that’s happened is swabs and separate x ray but usually there’s not even a mention.

(Sorry, i meant Europe rather than EU - have also travelled to America with no issues, but would be more concerned travelling outside of Europe)

Thank you SinkGirl Between DP and me we take a shed-load of meds but has only just occurred to me that he takes Tramadol. Will make sure all are in original boxes and take copies of prescriptions.

If you’re concerned you could ask your doctor for a letter but if it’s properly labelled and you have a copy of your prescription too you shouldn’t have any trouble. If it’s possible to take a sealed box then even better.
