Found this painting in a charity shop. Very curious to know if it's a real place. Any ideas?

Is this a real place?

If there’s nothing written on the back I don’t think it’s going to be possible to find out, because it’s a such a typical scene/layout

Did you buy it, is it yours now? What’s the reverse like?

Looking again, it strikes me that when people paint real boats, they usually paint the names that are on them - but in your picture none of those boats have names. And the two in the foreground are very similar, whereas in rl if you see little boats together in a place like that, there are normally more differences between them in terms of colour, structural details etc.

My money would be on it being an imagined scene.

Nothing on the back. No clues at all

No idea if it's a real place but the buildings and little islets are reminiscent of somewhere like Lake Garda or another Italian lake. Do a Google image search for lake garda and you'll see what I mean.

I haven't been there myself but watched a lovely programme where Timothy West And Prunella Scales went on various boating adventures and there was one where they sailed across a big lake in that area that was reminiscent of that scene.

Probably isn't a real place, but it looks quite Croatian to me.

Is that a signature in the bottom right?
