I want to know the name and artist of an instrumental track; it’s often played at Christmas time and it sounds a bit like Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel, I think it came out in the 70s or 80s. Please help

In dulci jubilo by Mike Oldfield?

Comefromaway · 28/02/2020 11:30

I'm at work so can't listen to Solsbury Hill to compare but could it be In Dulci Jubilo?

seekingwaxwings · 28/02/2020 11:37

I Believe In Father Christmas, Greg Lake?

TheWoodsareDarkandDeep · 28/02/2020 11:55

It’s not a track that has a Christmas song with the tune, I think it’s only instrumental. It has little bells at the start.

Prokofief "Troika"?

MonsteraDeliciosa · 28/02/2020 12:06

The music used in the middle of the Greg Lake song is an excerpt from "Troika" from Lieutenant Kijé by Prokofiev.
Might that be it?

MonsteraDeliciosa · 28/02/2020 12:06

Oops, Bore beat me to it!

Comefromaway · 28/02/2020 12:10

It's not the instrumental version of Sleigh Ride is it? But that's a lot earlier and quite orchestral. In Dulci Jubilo is folky with recorders and guitars.

Ass pps said Mike Oldfield was what sprang immediately on reading your description www.google.co.uk/search?q=dulci+jubilo&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-gb&client=safari

Play the tune into Shazam

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 28/02/2020 12:25

Or Carol of the Bells?

TheWoodsareDarkandDeep · 28/02/2020 21:24

I only have the tune in my head so can’t Shazam it

Not Tubular Bells?

TheWoodsareDarkandDeep · 29/02/2020 11:26

It’s troika- thank you so much. My dad played the sky version lots in the 80s!

Thanks TheWoods for reminding me of Solsbury Hill. Have just spent a happy 2 minutes listening to it. Now for Troika which is the definition of Christmas for me. It's not officially Christmas until I've listened to it. Slightly the wrong season, but who's counting?
