Any chiropodists out there?

Can you advise on this? DS did a hike a month ago but boots were too small. We've bought new boots but his toes are seriously bruised. They are no longer painful but the bruising doesn't seem to be getting any better?

I'm no chiropodist, but that looks like blood trapped under the nail, and will grow out as the nail grows.
