Nail polish meaning?

GinIsIt · 27/02/2020 17:27

There's lots of local beauticians who advertise on the FB pages for doing nails. And I reckon at least 75% of the nails have been done with the ring fingers in a different colour. My friend sometimes has this too (it's only just occurred to me while looking at the ads). Does it mean something? Or is it a trend/fashion? Is there an Insta Influencer I should be following?Grin

I would assume it's a fashion thing started by a "sleb" who has a giant rock on her ring finger

GinIsIt · 27/02/2020 17:30

Ah! I hadn't thought of it as being a reason to look at THE ring! So it's subtle attention-seeking then?Grin

I think it's just a trend.

Its meaning is "tacky as fuck". HTH!

whiplashy · 27/02/2020 18:13

I read years ago it was to signify you’re single but I’m sure it’s just a trend

AdaColeman · 27/02/2020 18:14

It means “a good way to use up the dregs of bottles”! Wink

SinglePringle · 27/02/2020 18:15

It’s been around for years. And is as tacky as fuck as per the PP.

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 27/02/2020 18:15

I get it wrong then 😳 usually it's my middle finger I get a different colour... I do it because I like the contrast of a different colour in the middle, no deeper meanind for me.

JigsawsAreInPieces · 27/02/2020 18:16

This was a ”thing” about 8-10 years ago. Every wanna-be airhead clone had it done as well as slug shaped eyebrows and thus removed all individuality.

fantasmasgoria1 · 27/02/2020 18:19

I don't know about that trend! If you want awesome nail ideas etc check out lexi martone nail art. She is a top nail artist in America.

readingismycardio · 27/02/2020 18:21

It was a trend in 2000 or 2005 maybe, definitely not now. Really tacky

happymummy12345 · 27/02/2020 18:23

It's known as an accent nail. Some people also have the thumb and ring finger one colour then the other three a different colour. Or maybe the middle finger and ring finger one colour and the other three different. Or maybe a design on some to make them different.
I always have accent nails (then my nails are hated on here anyway so)

happymummy12345 · 27/02/2020 18:23

Calling it tacky is rude imo as well

Thecowinthemeadowgoesmoo · 27/02/2020 18:28

It's an accent nail. It's just a trend. Up to the individual what they have on their nails and still pretty popular amongst my clients. Who I'm sure would be glad to know they're all tacky as fuck Hmm

Ginger1982 · 27/02/2020 18:32

"It was a trend in 2000 or 2005 maybe, definitely not now"

It still is pretty popular.

Yerroblemom1923 · 27/02/2020 18:37

It's a bit naff, tbh. And not very classy.

JaneDacre · 27/02/2020 18:38

An accent nail??? Heard it all now! Soon to go the same way as the accent wall...

hotcrossbun4321 · 27/02/2020 18:45

I got it done recently - there was a pretty sparkly colour that I liked but thought it would have been too much to do the whole hand in that colour. Maybe it's not classy but I like it and it pleases me to look at it!

ChicCroissant · 27/02/2020 18:46

Yes, it's been a thing for years IME. It's not something I do, but I see a lot of them about.

Lyricallie · 27/02/2020 18:48

Today I learned I'm tacky. Who knew?! I like it because I don't want all sparkles and all one colour can be boring.

BeeFarseer · 27/02/2020 18:49

One woman's 'classy' is another woman's 'wow - how dated'.

Just saying. Grin

WhenTwoBecomeThree · 27/02/2020 18:49

I currently have an accent nail, it's only subtle though, it's just the same colour as my others but that nail has a slight sparkle

Sometimes treat myself and have my thumb aswell, it just breaks it up a bit

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 27/02/2020 18:53

Today I learned I'm tacky. Who knew?! ditto, I even have an accent wall 😂

PolaDeVeboise · 27/02/2020 19:03

Not a fan myself. Then again, not a fan of the 'pointy talon' look either. As for the diamantes and all that....

HaddawayAndShite · 27/02/2020 19:08

A tacky, air-head here too apparently. But at least I don't spew vitriol about other women based on their nail polish choice Wink
