Please give me some recommendations- I’m spoilt for choice at the shops Confused

Have been using Aldi tablets but they don’t make much foam in the machine - can anyone recommend something really good?

bio powder
brand doesn't really matter, they are all pretty much the same.
foam is no indication that the detergent is/is not working properly. in fact in a modern machine too much foam is not a good thing.

Boringista · 26/02/2020 14:21

Didn’t bio detergent contain bleaching agent though... so no good for dark wash?

you can get colour powder.

TheVanguardSix · 26/02/2020 14:23

I alway stick with Persil or Fairy non-bio powder, rather than tablet or liquid. I used an eco-egg for a long time as well which was very good actually.

Boringista · 26/02/2020 14:24

There is so much choice:
Dark wash
Delicate wash
Bright coloured wash
White wash...
Abs that’s before i factor in bio / non bio.

I am totally confused. I have a delicates liquid (Woolite) and use Aldi (non bio I think) for all else.

Thanks the vanguard. What’s an eco egg ? (Goes to google...)

TwilightPeace · 26/02/2020 14:26

I always use bio powder for all washes (apart from delicates).
Liquid detergent messed my machine up and left the clothes smelling damp.
I like Ariel and Persil, but usually buy Persil as it’s cheaper and frequently on offer.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 26/02/2020 14:26

I use Ariel HD colour pods and turn jeans inside out before washing plus a colour catcher sheet

Fucck · 26/02/2020 14:26

I've always used persil non bio for colours and daz for whites, towels & bedding.
I won't touch vanish powder as I found it wrecks clothes and has often set a stain in rather than removing it.
If I need a stain remover I use bio-dex which I've found to be quite good (small turquoise box if you're looking for it)

Boringista · 26/02/2020 14:26

Oh and I forgot to mention... loads of my clothes say don’t use bio detergent/ so I’d kind If abandoned it. Confused

Fuuuck- thanks I think my mum (rip) used to use Daz.

Boringista · 26/02/2020 14:28

Sorry Fucck- misspelt your name. May appropriate the misspelling...

I also have a bottle of Woolite liquid for delicate & wool items, although not a good stain remover if I'm honest, but obviously it can't be harsh so 🤷🏽‍♀️

BinkySodPlop · 26/02/2020 14:29

I use an eco egg for light / quick washes, but have noticed that my last one left my whites a bit dingy, so keep it for colours now. I use Ariel or Persil powder / flakes for hot and white washes. Don't think there's much difference between them.

Fucck · 26/02/2020 14:29

All is forgiven 😆

Boringista · 26/02/2020 14:30

Twilight & uncomfortably- Ariel Is part of p&g which has a royal warrant. I wonder if the palace uses Ariel?!

bloodywhitecat · 26/02/2020 14:34

I use Method even on the baby's stuff, it works well and the smell isn't overpowering.

Boringista · 26/02/2020 14:34

Ok so I’m learning here...

A. Eco egg or non bio powder good for colours (except c below)
B. Bio powder or Daz for whites / bedding etc
C. Woolite for items which say no non bio / are obviously delicates
D. Avoid liquids (except woolite) and tabs az powder is best.

OP posts:
Lllot5 · 26/02/2020 14:38

Well I like liquid. Not tabs just liquid. Aerial, surf, persil whatever is on offer.

dementedpixie · 26/02/2020 14:41

Non bio powder also contains bleaches. It just doesnt contains enzymes

You would need a powder for colours to avoid bleaching agents.

No liquids contain bleaches whether bio or non bio

Boringista · 26/02/2020 14:42

Seems to me there are so many options and I suspect a lot if it is just marketing to make people buy more.

I think my grandmother used to use ‘soap flakes’ on everything. Can’t remember brand. I wonder if they are still available...

OP posts:
bloodywhitecat · 26/02/2020 14:43

@Boringista Lux?

Boringista · 26/02/2020 14:45

Demented- so I need 2x non bio- one normal and one for dark wash?

OP posts:
Boringista · 26/02/2020 14:45

@bloodywhitecat YES!
