Please give me some recommendations- I’m spoilt for choice at the shops Confused

Have been using Aldi tablets but they don’t make much foam in the machine - can anyone recommend something really good?

No. Bio liquid (skin issues), not capsules they clog my machine as wash mostly at 30. I haven't found any brand better than another tbh. Just buy what's on offer.

I pre soak the kids' school shirts in vanish if they're particularly disgusting.

Can't use conditioner due to skin.

dementedpixie · 26/02/2020 14:47

P.s. if you use Daz for whites and colours then it doesnt have bleaching agents

You dont get non bio powder for colours as far as I know.

Non bio liquid would be ok for darks/colours
Powder for whites - bio or non bio as both have bleaches

dementedpixie · 26/02/2020 14:51

What sort of clothes do you wear that cant tolerate bio products? Do you wear a lot of wool/silk?

Boringista · 26/02/2020 14:53

Does anyone rise find they are washing all day because you have to sort the laundry into so many different loads? I’ve done 5 already and nit finished. Still have whites- and off to town to get Daz for them later.

@Boringista Well... I'm sure the queen always has clean clothes,so if it's good enough for her...!

Boringista · 26/02/2020 14:54

@dementedpixie Cotton wool blend or silk wool blend jumpers.

Daz is bio

AlpineSnow · 26/02/2020 14:56

I use Woolite and tesco colour tablets and any bio powder for whites. Once I've used up the bio powder I'll swap to just a colour powder, plus a scoop of tesco oxy if washing whites

uncomfortablydumb53 · 26/02/2020 14:56

I must admit I don't sort my laundry these days I use a colour catcher sheet and hope for the best. I don't have any whites though

dementedpixie · 26/02/2020 14:56

And the newer Daz for whites/colours doesnt contain bleaches so may not be as good for getting whites white

Boringista · 26/02/2020 14:58

Just realised Daz is made by P&G and thanks @dementedpixie it can indeed do whites and colours... so in theory I could just buy Daz & something for delicates.

I do sort washing but do different types on different days rather than all on the same day

Boringista · 26/02/2020 15:00

Plus maybe Daz special white powder for extra white stuff.

OP posts:
Boringista · 26/02/2020 15:02

@alpinesnow that’s a good plan but I have to do it all on couple of days I get off so it builds up a bit.

I use the big green box of Tesco bio powder and it goes straight in the drum,it's £4. I have no idea if it foams or not as I don't watch it washing the clothes but they come out smelling nice and clean. I used to use the Aldi tablets too but my issue was that they didn't disolve properly. I also use fabric conditioner from Aldi.

Boringista · 26/02/2020 15:04

I’ve just bought a new washing machine and to add to all the above stress, you can also get special pods which clip into it to either wash special wedges, or to condition. But if you clip in a wash pod you can’t use conditioner. Confused

*washes (not wedges)

I use Waitrose sensitive (no stink) for most of mine, sometimes Lidl powder, non bio, sometimes Surf liquid for the rest.

To avoid colour loss, you need something without optical brighteners (bleach). It is possible to find them without strong perfume, unless you want to get a headache from the fumes.

One thing I have noticed is that the newer products are making my towels feel sticky, and have discovered that different ingredients are being added.

You don't need lots of suds to get a clean wash and can use less than the dosing instructions.

Try washing towels with no detergent and see if you still get foam in the machine when the water has heated up. Mine does it for up to 4 washes without any (I did it as an experiment due to sticky and hard towels). My horrible Bosch machine has a dip in the front of the door section which fills with suds and they say there too.

DontCallMeShitley · 26/02/2020 15:38

Liquids are OK as long as you clean your machine regularly and don't use too much. Some types of liquid smell of mould before you begin, there are so many different smells but some of them are just rank.

I alternate between liquid and powder, use white vinegar and nothing with Febreze, no conditioner, just vinegar.

For stains I use washing up liquid, unperfumed and not coloured, but test a bit first. Damp the stain with water, put liquid on and kind of push it out with a finger from the centre to the edge, leave it on, then repeat. Can take a day or so depending on the stain but I managed to remove a tomato based sauce stain of unknown origin in 2 days that had dried on to a linen top.

Had to give Woolite away due to the smell.

dementedpixie · 26/02/2020 15:41

Optical brighteners arent bleach. Optical brighteners are often used in place of bleach

woodencoffeetable · 26/02/2020 15:44

optical brighteners are often blue colourants which make whites appear whiter.
colour powders don't have them.

dementedpixie · 26/02/2020 15:48

Persil colour does have optical brighteners but no bleach

dementedpixie · 26/02/2020 15:51

Well the powder does anyway
