How often do you reuse a cup?

I usually drink cups of coffee or tea throughout the day at work and will just use the same cup all day (quick rinse if swapping from coffee to tea) but my colleague needs a fresh cup every time.

Do you reuse or get a fresh one?
If you reuse, how long would you leave it between uses before you had to get a fresh one?

You’re not allowed your own mugs?
How bizarre.

I reuse the same cup all day but I do rinse with boiling water and give a quick wipe with a tissue

This is very un-MN! Surely everyone should be saying that if you reuse a mug you are filthy and unhygienic and ideally you should throw them away after each drink?

Why is everyone so sensible? :)

If the supply was endless I'd probably take a new mug each time, but they usually run out so I keep the same one as it's not fair for me to use more than one and leave someone without.

I use the same mug for tea all day. I rinse it with boiling water though and leave the water in until the teas brewed in the pot so it's nice and hot.
For coffee have a cappuccino and use a specific mug which I wash out between uses.

If they all go in the dishwasher at the end of the day does it matter ?

Because people using a new mug every time fills th dishwasher quicker and it creates more work for the cleaners who have either have to sort it multiple times or come in to be faced with the mugs that don't fit because some people couldn't face drinking from the same mug twice.

I have my own mug and wash it up after every use, tbf I usually only have 2 cups of tea each day. Also we have a little kitchen across the hall so really easy access to wash things up properly, I just wash it while the kettle is boiling.

Most colleagues simply give a swill with water and just reuse the same cup. We have corporate mugs but most people use their own.

I don't drink tea or coffee, which also means I don't have to do the drink making runs.

Bogiesaremyonlyfriend · 26/02/2020 12:24

Never crossed my mind to reuse- always put in the dishwasher (work from home) same with glasses for water... this seems like an oversight. Might try and reuse and see what happens!!

ineedaholidaynow · 26/02/2020 13:31

DDIJ why do you only have one mug, and why would you need to wash it after every use if it has only had water in it? Do your DC have their own mug too?

uncomfortablydumb53 · 26/02/2020 14:22

All day I rinse it but only drink coffee( with milk)
I use a different smaller mug for night time " sleep tea"

musicmaiden · 26/02/2020 14:28

Ah, now drinking cold water out of a mug is just wrong IMO!

(OP – I use one all day too for tea, rinse in between)

Sparklingbrook · 26/02/2020 14:38

New cup for every drink at home I only have 3 hot drinks max a day. New cup every time at work as it's a vending machine.
