What could possibly go wrong with my birthday present

DH has a long and noble history not not quite getting the thing that he has been asked to get. Even if you write it down what comes back is broadly similar but often not usable. For instance, DS and I get itchy from most washing powders/liquids, there are a couple of specific brands that are fine, DH offered to buy some as he was at the shop anyway but came back with the 2-in-1 version of the correct brand, which we can't use. Or when tinned tuna steak in brine is written on the shopping list with come back with tuna chunks in brine or tuna steak in oil. Nothing terrible, but just a bit wasteful as it sits in the cupboard until it goes out of date.

Anyway, it's my birthday this week and I have been considering buying myself a portable DVD player as I have a lot of box set DVDs that I love but no means of playing them anymore since the old Xbox died and the new one is digital only. DH is going to buy one for my birthday. What will I end up with? A home cinema system perhaps? A CD player (do they even exist anymore)?

Correct answer wins something close to a thing that they need, but not quite. Wink

He is, isn't he Speed. Grin Fortunately 29 years of marriage has taught me to buy my own birthday cake, so I am tucking into a huge portion of pavlova now.

Don't 'accidentally' break it. Get the one you prefer, take his back and tell him thank you very much for the new one.

For future, if you want something specific, order it yourself with his name on the box, he pays for it/gives you the money, he opens it and wraps it. No worries then. Or (I'm on a roll now Grin) do an amazon wish list or Pinterest board with the pics of the items linking to where you've found things.

Happy birthday! Hope you had a lovely day. Cake

I did suggest that he take it back as soon as I opened it, and he said no. I do buy my Christmas present from him myself and tell him what he's got me which works well, there's no point in him giving me money as our account is joint.
