Good morning, I started getting a cold a few days ago it was very bad for 2 days, aches, a slight fever, head aches. I slept allot and drank lots of lemon and honey. Today I sound worse than I feel I just have a cough and a runny nose..did anyone else have this in early pregnancy? ..Is it something to worry about or does a normal cold just seem worse? I had a miscarriage last year so quite nervous..I hope someone can offer me some reassurance and I apologise if it a very silly thing to worry about

I had an awful cold and fever just when I'd found out I was pregnant at about 4 or 5 weeks. It was miserable but no problem at all for the baby. Healthy pregnancy, birth and DS after that so it was just a bad start. Hope you feel better soon. Try not to worry.

Colds can be awful during pregnancy as the additional eostrogen in your body can cause more swelling of mucous membranes. So you get more blocked up, more likely to develop sinusitis and so on. I think it's the eostrogen anyway? Definitely one of the pregnancy hormones. Also your immune system is different when pregnant, to prevent you rejecting the baby.

Having a cold in itself isn't harmful to your baby though. But if you do get a very high temp or any signs of infection or other complications, do see your GP/speak to 111 or whatever is most suitable.

Thank you so much for your reply, it really helps when someone else has been through it..we have not told many people yet so nice to have some reassurance. I'm trying not to google things as I've done that before and i just made myself paranoid. Have a lovely day x

I had a horrific cold I couldn't shake off. It ended up developing in to a chest infection. I got antibiotics. Baby was fine.

I wasn't taking anything because I was scared but then a midwife told me I must take paracetamol as me having a fever wasn't good for baby. Definitely get advice but I'm sure paracetamol is fine/beneficial when you have a fever in pregnancy.
